This is my favorite Alma Gluck song. I get to be free to imagine that I am living in the bygone era and playing this song on the phonograph while looking up into the pale moonlight and catching the cool, gentle breeze of the night.

I entirely agree with you. An exquisite performance, with her voice caught at its finest.

Rest in Peace Efrem Zimbalist Jr. here pictured on his fathers lap while his adoring mother looks on. Imagine him going to heaven and hearing his mother sing this again.

It doesn't seem possible that they should die, and leave us with the ghost sounds of living emotion.

this is lovely... thanks for posting it

This was the tune played and sung by Rachel Roberts at the ending of the Rod Serling Night Gallery episode, "Certain Shadows on the Wall," also starring Agnes Moorhead and Grayson Hall.

Took me a really long time but found them at last! apparently there's one too many "Sing me to sleep songs" lol. I found it as a lullaby song.

It won't allow me to post the link. Here are the lyrics: SING ME TO SLEEP (English words by Clifton Bingham, Music by Edwin Greene) Sing me to sleep, the shadows fall Let me forget the world and all Tired is my heart, the day is long Would it were to come evensong Sing me to sleep, your hand in mine Our fingers as in prayer entwine Only your voice love, let me hear Singing to tell me you are near

I heard this song just yesterday on the Night Gallery episode Certain Shadows On The Wall, and it was played by Rachel Roberts in a creepy context by pretending to be played by one of the sisters who poisoned her brother (the doctor who was taking care of their oldest sister for the last twenty five years prior to her death). She was also poisoned by him slowly over the years, but he was poisoned quickly by the sister who was playing this on the upright grand piano that they evidently had tuned after she and then he died. He tried it out the night of the deaths, and it was out of tune then. This is a lovely old song, at first I thought that it was played on a small pipe organ but then realized that it is played on violin in this recording. Sort of similar in musical tone and style to On This Day O Beautiful Mother, but then again different in topic altogether.
