I know I could never do it. I'm not good at compartmentalizing my emotions so keeping them separate from the analytical and impartial aspects of investigative work would be next to impossible. Especially in cases involving kids. The sadness and rage and hopelessness I'd feel with each case would consume me. I'd be a burned-out wreck after 6 months on the job.

I can't imagine having to do this job from week to week and not becoming cold to it, it looks to me like the detectives still have a big heart and care about what they are doing. I pray God will bless them toi help people and to be able to stay human while doing it.

ive spent some 12 sessions with one, 6 or more with another feeling like what's the point & didn't know until i got a therapist who could read me that the others were not only a waste of time but almost led me to give up, thinking that if that's all there was maybe no-one can help me

@Carl Bitney I wish I could find one I can relate to or can relate to me. I’m not very good at dealing with all the deaths of my parents and my best friend of 30 years all in a year time.
Other people close to me have died in the past but never before had I fallen to my knees in tears than when my best friend died. My parents at least died of natural causes. Other than being on hospice and morphine doing them in with me administering it.

My first autopsy in med school was a floater from the White river.Severely decomposed. It was so terrible, the smell, the sight, the gore and stinking bubbles, that I knew pathology was not going to be my forte. My hat's off to those who do this! Db

I stopped watching this show after my cousin was murdered in 2017. It was just too much, counting down those 48 hours…Luckily the streets were TALKING and detectives already knew who did it. They made him think they wanted to talk to him about some shoplifting he did and they got him.

Ever watched the documentaries on false confessions? So many DNA exonerations. I work in law. I told my son at a very young age that if he ever gets pulled into a room with police, he should ask for a lawyer and for them to call his dad. As you said, I'm happy murderers are dumb and tell on themselves. But there's another side of that coin for sure.

I sometimes get so excited to try and solve crimes like these even though it's heartbreaking what all I hear. My daughter and I dreamed about being in the field of solving crimes but she died at a young age of cancer so we didn't get the chance. I couldn't do anything without her so I just watch these shows and try to put myself in the investigation as they solve the murders.

They usually aren't functioning normally, but they do their best. This is why mental health should be a top priority for all law enforcement. To both help with trauma and weed out the loose cannons with quick trigger fingers.

@Oleandra1985 law enforcements idea of help for their mental health is sucking it up and never tell anyone about negative feelings or you'll appear weak.
When law enforcement officers snap and do something horrible all of a sudden it's a mental health issue never addressed and should be excused.
They shouldn't be able to have it both ways, LE need to ask for the resources that many don't even have or pay the punishment for their behavior when their mental illness becomes out of control and hurts someone. Especially if mental illness is going to be their defense against a crime.

What absolutely amazes me is that finger prints can be very easily smudged off. ITs like your kids finger print on the back door sliding glass. A single swipe of a paper towel or your hand just whisking over the top turns it to a blur, and the detectives along with the forensic guys are just handling the evidence in the exact spot where a normal person would pick up that particular item. It does not matter if your wearing gloves, if you touch it and rub in any direction, its gone. I would expect way more of these guys.

True. But far too often it's someone close to the victim who's withholding information despite not being responsible for the crime. At a certain point you have to take a chance to get justice for someone who supposedly meant something to you. But yeah, they often don't have the empathy they should for people in their shoes

Seriously, these Medical Examiners and Coroner got to be the most insane, under appreciated jobs ever. Imagine having to examine this body at the beginning! Oh my God holy smokes. Like even these detectives, the smell, the tough part. People think it's like TV and these shows show it's a whole different story.

Also, the first 48 hours is NOT a deadline. It's when the evidence is most clear and available. It doesn't mean anything after 48 hours is a waste of time or impossible.

@Valerie Watkins I live outside south Philly and I can remember this being all over the news. It sticks with you. Just like when they found that kid in the suitcase in the city years ago. My husband is a Philadelphia ironworker and our son works as a Philadelphia union laborer. The stories my husband comes home with are absolutely crazy. On Sunday dinners when our son comes with his wife and they start sharing stories, it gets even worse. It's sad how sad the city has gotten.

I wanna know if the cameramen, editors, production crew, etc. of these type of shows have to take special training/receive therapy for this work... Do they have to apply and need to have certain qualifications? 🤔 I can't imagine that just anyone is able to capture such gruesome images without it taking a toll.

I would have loved to have been a homicide detective. I know there is a lot more to it then just the interrogation and the arrest which is the fun part so I know they put in a lot of hard work to catch these people.

Imagine being a detective and flying to a different state to talk to a suspect that is in custody and when you get to the interrogation room, the suspect says 1 word, "lawyer", and the conversation is over. in 5 seconds.

You literally flew to that state for nothing and there's nothing you can do about it. Shortest trip ever.

It’s ridiculous that the cops say “it’s easy for a witness to disappear”, then complain that people lie to them rather than give them information. Then, even though they’re well aware of the danger of witnesses giving information. They show video of the roommate telling them who’s responsible and what happened. They’re knowingly putting that guy’s life in serious danger.

I suspect the police feel that they are willing to take the risk of being attacked or killed anytime for standing up to the thugs so they feel the public should too and that is a valid point. The 'roommate' person gave permission to be shown, ( standard legal stuff for video shows) perhaps they feel as the cops do about it.

This was one of my favorite shows! They don't make them like this anymore. My other favorite was American Justice with Bill Kurtis. Now all you can find are 2-12 minute snippets of the original shows. One of the reasons I no longer watch tv.

Sometimes I believe the spirits of the victims or their angels are guiding the hand of the sketch artists to identify these victims! Did you see how alike the sketch was of the girl in her ID they found, even down to the girls hair sticking out on each side of her face! This is not coincidental I believe.

I remember watching these from S1 E1 with my grandma. I thought this show was a legit insight and then a funny thing happened...I quit TV altogether and now I see with new eyes and I'm not missing much but I will reminisce about the innocence of it all I suppose
