Lara's Theme
André Rieu Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somewhere my love there will be songs to sing
Although the snow covers the hope of Spring
Somewhere a hill blossoms in green and gold
And there are dreams, all that your heart can hold

Someday we'll meet again, my love
Someday whenever the Spring breaks through
You'll come to me, out of the long-ago
Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow
Lara, my own, think of me now and then
Godspeed, my love, till you are mine again

Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow

Godspeed, my love, till you are mine again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to André Rieu's song Lara's Theme are both bittersweet and hopeful. The first stanza speaks of the promise of the future, even if the present is covered in snow and lacking in hope. It suggests that even though things may seem bleak at the moment, there will be songs to sing and dreams to hold onto. The second stanza speaks of a future reunion between two people who are deeply in love. It speaks of their memories of one another, and suggests that their love will endure despite any physical distance between them. The final line, "Godspeed, my love, until you are mine again", emphasizes the longing these two lovers feel for one another and their hope for a happy reunion in the future.

One interesting fact about the song is that Lara's Theme is actually taken from the score of the 1965 film Doctor Zhivago, which was composed by Maurice Jarre. The song became so popular that it was eventually released separately from the soundtrack and has since been covered by many different artists. Another interesting fact is that André Rieu, the violinist who recorded this version of the song, is known for his emotional and dynamic performances on stage. He is particularly famous for his ability to infuse classical works with a sense of passion and drama that makes them accessible to a wider audience.

Who's still listening this somewhat triste and beautiful tune in 2021 with me?

I guess we all have our own "Lara" in our memories.

Memories of those far-off day?
Memories tinged with sadness?
Reminiscences and Memories crowded your mind?
Long lost friends?

or heyday of your life?
I want to share your beautiful stories.

Will you leave your beautiful stories at my door?
I'll leave them for the one who waits behind.

Somewhere my love..
