His first group was the Church of God in Christ Singers (COGICS) in 1960, which included Billy Preston who later played organ for the Beatles and Eric Clapton. [1] The COGICS were the first group to record the song "The Blood".
Crouch founded the Disciples in 1965. At the urging of Christian composer Ralph Carmichael, he began to record his compositions in 1969. During the 1965-85 period, Andraé Crouch and the Disciples appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, performed at the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall, and toured 68 countries. Crouch's most popular songs from this period include "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power," "Through It All," "Bless His Holy Name," and "My Tribute". Their contemporary gospel sound reached beyond the traditional African American base and touched a racially and musically diverse audience. Several musical acts and solo performers covered (made recordings of) his more popular works, further expanding Crouch's musical influence.
Has sung solo with the Oslo Gospel Choir in Norway on several occasions.
In 2006, he released Mighty Wind, a 40th anniversary album featuring guest performances by Marvin Winans, Crystal Lewis, Karen Clark Sheard, and Lauren Evans.

When we'll be leaving here
It won't be long
We'll be going home
It won't be long
When we'll be leaving here
It won't be long
We'll be going home
Count the years
Count the years as months
Count the years as months
Count the months,
Count the months as weeks
Count the months as weeks
And count the weeks
Count the weeks as days
Mmm, any day now
We'll be goin'
We'll be going home
Beloved, now we are the sons of God
And it doth not yet appear
What we shall be, but we know when Christ shall appear
We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He is
In all of His majesty, splendor and glory
We shall, we shall be like Him
Ohh, I know that we shall, we shall be like Him
In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, we shall
We shall be like Him, any day now
We'll be goin'
We'll be going home
Get ready, get ready
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long, we'll be goin'
We'll be going home
It won't be long
It may be tomorrow,
When we'll be leaving here
You might be runnin' from God right now, but remember
It won't be long
Andraé Crouch's song "It Won't Be Long" is a soulful and uplifting song that speaks to the hope of going home to be with God. The lyrics convey a sense of anticipation and excitement, suggesting that the time when we will see Christ in his glory is drawing near. The repetition of the phrase "it won't be long" reinforces this message, preparing listeners for the day when they will join their Creator.
The song begins with the idea that we are only temporary residents on this earth and that our time here is limited. The passage of time is framed in various ways, with years being counted as months, months as weeks, and weeks as days. This builds a sense of urgency and expectancy, emphasizing that the moment when we will leave this world is always looming.
The second half of the song is more explicitly religious, drawing on the imagery of Christ's Second Coming. The notion that "we shall be like Him" when he appears reinforces the idea that believers will be transformed when they enter heaven. While the song doesn't focus on the details of what that transformation will look like, it celebrates the hope and joy that comes with the promise of eternal life.

Over 45 years ago, I was in high school when I heard this song. Having aged and matured, I've learned we live in the physical, but God's Word tells us that a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years as a day... count the years as months, count the months as weeks, count the weeks as days... any day now... we're going home. Be ready ❤ 🙏🏾
