It Won't Be Long
Andraé Crouch and the Disciples Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It won't be long
When we'll be leaving here
It won't be long
We'll be going home
It won't be long
When we'll be leaving here
It won't be long
We'll be going home

Count the years
Count the years as months
Count the years as months
Count the months,
Count the months as weeks
Count the months as weeks
And count the weeks
Count the weeks as days
Mmm, any day now
We'll be goin'
We'll be going home

Beloved, now we are the sons of God
And it doth not yet appear
What we shall be, but we know when Christ shall appear
We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He is
In all of His majesty, splendor and glory

We shall, we shall be like Him
Ohh, I know that we shall, we shall be like Him
In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, we shall
We shall be like Him, any day now
We'll be goin'
We'll be going home
Get ready, get ready
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long, we'll be goin'
We'll be going home
It won't be long
It may be tomorrow,
When we'll be leaving here

You might be runnin' from God right now, but remember
It won't be long

Overall Meaning

Andraé Crouch's song "It Won't Be Long" is a soulful and uplifting song that speaks to the hope of going home to be with God. The lyrics convey a sense of anticipation and excitement, suggesting that the time when we will see Christ in his glory is drawing near. The repetition of the phrase "it won't be long" reinforces this message, preparing listeners for the day when they will join their Creator.

The song begins with the idea that we are only temporary residents on this earth and that our time here is limited. The passage of time is framed in various ways, with years being counted as months, months as weeks, and weeks as days. This builds a sense of urgency and expectancy, emphasizing that the moment when we will leave this world is always looming.

The second half of the song is more explicitly religious, drawing on the imagery of Christ's Second Coming. The notion that "we shall be like Him" when he appears reinforces the idea that believers will be transformed when they enter heaven. While the song doesn't focus on the details of what that transformation will look like, it celebrates the hope and joy that comes with the promise of eternal life.

@hiseyes

this was the first Christian album i bought after i got saved back in 1976. it minstered to me so much and now when i hear the songs i am translated back to those amazing days when i first knew the Lord and i feel brand new all over again. thanks for posting!

@revalbertha

I remember singing this song years ago when I got saved as a teenager, and I thought it was just a pretty song; now that I am 50 years ago, I get a better understanding that Jesus is soon to come and that I'm patiently awaiting His return. The days aren't as long as they use to be and we must be ready, because any day now, we'll be going home.

Give Jesus a hug for me, dearest Andrae'.  We will be there soon to join you as you lead us in worship and praise to the king.  Thank you for the inspiration you have been to so many of us.

A clear message to remind us to number our days, and to let us know that our lives are in the hands of GOD. We shall account for how our time and bodies were used some day . Remember your body is the temple of GOD, where His SPIRIT dwells.
Thanks Bro Andrae Crouch. Rest well Minister of GOD.

2024 Even so come Lord Jesus... Maranatha

@PatriotBabe

I have no doubt that Michael sensed that he would be leaving this Earthly Realm. I know that God is a mericiful God and he has taken Michael into his arms. How ironic that the Crouches were what 3 weeks meeting with him prior to his passing. I would love to hear the 2 beautiful songs that Michael gave to Andrae, I pray that they are released so we can all hear. Michael - all your Earthly pains, both physical and emotionally are no longer. You are free and no one can ever hurt you again.
