Soon And Very Soon
Andraé Crouch and the Disciples Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Soon and very soon we are going to see the king
Hallelujah, hallelujah, we're going to see the king X3

No more crying there, we are going to see the king
Hallelujah, hallelujah, we're going to see the king X3

Bridge:
Should there be any rivers we must cross
Should there be any mountains we must climb
God will supply all the strength that we need
Give us strength till we reach the other side.

verse:
We have come from every nation,
God has already signed our name.
Jesus took his blood and he washed my sins, he washed them all away.
Yet there are those of us who have laid down our lives
but we all shall meet again on the other side.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Andraé Crouch & The Disciples's song Soon and Very Soon focus on the belief that Christians will eventually be reunited with their lord and savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven. The song begins with the repeated phrase "Soon and very soon we are going to see the king," emphasizing the imminent and joyous arrival of this event. The repetition of "Hallelujah" only adds to the celebratory nature of the song, with the singers expressing a sense of elation and enthusiasm.

The second verse speaks to the theme of salvation through Jesus, with the lines "Jesus took his blood and he washed my sins, he washed them all away." The ultimate goal of every believer is to reach heaven, as described in the final lines of the song, "but we all shall meet again on the other side." The bridge acts as a reassurance for those who may struggle with the difficulties of life on earth, emphasizing that God will give them the strength to overcome any obstacle, whether it be a river or a mountain.

@jaelob

My mom had this record when I was growing up. I remember when I was in 4th grade (1982-83), lying in bed sick with flu a few days, and I really fell in love with this song then, (which I recorded on my little tape recorder) and listened over and over maybe 20 times or more while recuperating. I really loved it and payed very close attention to the piano licks in particular, and the bass and drums were all good, too, and really loved the part when the organ comes in all glorious and how everything kept climaxing.
Little did I know until now how much effect this song (and Andrae Crouch) must have had on my own piano style when I got older. I do believe I can hear that effect when I just recently posted me singing and playing "Bless the Lord Oh My Soul" on piano. Though I'm just one voice and can't sound like Andrae's glorious choir, I really let the piano rip to supply the lack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sHJ9x3jRsc

My group sang this at a church program when we were in college.  One my friends , Eric, saw Andrae Crouch at a NY airport around the time this song first came out, and they sang it together while waiting for the plane.  Mr. Andrae even corrected some of lyrics that Eric somehow got wrong. LOL.

@BillRoberts242

VERY soon indeed.
