Action
Andy Scott/Brian Connolly/Mick Tucker/Steve Priest Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To satisfy your intellectual need
Do you want, do you want
Action, action, action, action
Gonna bring you down
'Cause you've been pushing me
You've got to recognize my superiority
You know you believed it
Higher, higher, higher, higher
'Cause I'm the main man
And that's why
Everybody wants a piece of the action
Everybody needs a main attraction
I've got what everybody needs
Satisfaction guarantees
That everybody wants a piece of the action
Oh, I was suicidal 'cause you was my idol
Baby, baby, baby, bring it to your knees
Oh, there was a time I would have walked the line
But you bled me dry with your insatiable greed
Liar, liar, liar, liar
You know you believed it
Higher, higher, higher, higher
'Cause I'm the main man
And that's why
Everybody wants a piece of the action
Everybody needs a main attraction
I've got what everybody needs
Satisfaction guarantees
That everybody wants a piece of the action
Do you want, do you want action?
Everybody wants, everybody needs
Everybody wants, everybody needs
Everybody wants a piece of the action
Everybody needs a main attraction
I've got what everybody needs
Satisfaction guarantees
That everybody wants a piece of the action
The song "Action" by The Sweet is a classic glam rock anthem that speaks of superiority and the desire to have control. The song is sung with a lot of confidence and boldness by the lead vocalist, who sings about being in control and having what everyone wants. The lyrics are a reflection of the 70s rock scene, where the main attraction was all about performance and showmanship. The song's message is that the singer is the star of the show and everybody needs a piece of the action.
The chorus of the song is catchy and has a strong hook that draws the listener in. The phrase "Everybody wants a piece of the action" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the idea that the singer is the center of attention and everybody wants to be a part of what he has to offer. The lyrics also talk about how the singer has been pushed by others and how he will bring them down because of their insatiable greed.
Overall, the song is a nod to the narcissistic and hedonistic nature of the rock scene in the 70s, where it was all about fame and fortune. It is a classic glam rock song with a catchy melody and an infectious energy that makes it an enduring favorite with fans of the genre.

And no one puts our music like this anymore!

Nope. It seems that music has been on a steady decline since the end of the grunge age.

The riffs, the songwriting, the musicianship, the attitude, the looks - this is the complete package. Sweet were so ridiciously cool it isn't even funny anymore. Had they been around on this level in the late 80ies and early 90ies, they would have run circles around posers like Motley Crue and smoked the entire L.A. Glam Rock scene. Geniuses, all four of them.

The Sweet wrote most of the songs for the B-sides of their records. And when the Sweet split from "Mike Chapman" and "Nicky Chin" (Sweet's song writers), they started writing all their songs, including this one, called "Action".
