Under The Bridge
Andy Vargas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, the city of angels
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills 'cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
But, I never worry, now that is a lie

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way,
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah

It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city, she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way,
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh, oh, I say, yeah yeah
Love me, I say, yeah yeah
Ooh, ooh, I said, yeah yeah

One time

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough

Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough

Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

I gave my life away
I gave my life away, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Under the Bridge" is about the feelings of loneliness and disconnection from society that lead the singer to seek solace and comfort in the city of Los Angeles, where he lives. He sees himself as alone in the world, with the city being his only "partner" and "companion," providing him with a sense of belonging and familiarity. The chorus of the song expresses the singer's desire to never feel the pain and isolation he once felt, and to always be taken to the place that he loves – the city of angels.

However, the bridge referred to in the title and repeated throughout the song is a symbol of the singer's drug addiction. The bridge is where he would go to shoot heroin and try to forget about his problems. The lyrics "under the bridge downtown, is where I drew some blood" and "I could not get enough" reveal the intensity of his drug use and the negative impact it had on his life. The final repetition of "I gave my life away" emphasizes the importance of the bridge and the addiction in the singer's life, as well as his internal struggle to overcome it.

why does everyone hate this? sure it doesnt sound like the original, thats because its a cover... whats the point in trying to play it exactly as the original? Santana made it his own, he does Salsa and latin style music, so guess what, he tweaked this song to make it his own, and I think for what he was trying to do, he's perfected it

@2ombi3.

My guess is that people find this song and expect it to be RHCP, and don't understand Santanas music and style(which you point out) but, oh well. We can jam it and they can wait over there. My father gave this album to me as a birthday present and changed my life. Now I play guitar, and listen to this on his birthdays

@leadersama09

So groovy and amazing work. It always gives me a boost in boring life.

Original is sweet but this cover by Carlos and crew is supreme. Carlos has a special knack for covers. A combination of creativity and innovation.

stop complaining, its a cover so it wont sound exactly the same. Santana put his own spin on it and this song and album are fantastic.
