And Then
Anja Garbarek Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The girl in a red coat turns
Passing
Entering
Going places
Bring her name
Kneeling down
She throws herself into sound
Passing
Entering
Going places
Seen from above
This is instant living
Seen from above
This is instant living
Seen from above
This is the beginning
Of the night
And memories are watching
As she does the move
They glide through
Holding letters with collected time
Passing
Entering
Going places
Passing
Entering
Going places
Seen from above
This is instant living
Seen from above
This is instant living
Seen from above
This is instant living
Seen from above
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
At first and then, na-na na-na-na
Anja Garbarek's song "And Then" is a haunting and enigmatic piece that is open to interpretation. The opening lines "unpack moments, the girl in a red coat turns" suggest a sense of curiosity and intrigue. This feeling is heightened by the repetition of "passing, entering, going places," which creates a sense of movement and adventure. The line "bring her name under the chain of lights" is particularly evocative, as it creates an image of the girl being both illuminated and obscured at the same time. The following line, "kneeling down, she throws herself into sound," suggests that the girl is either performing, or perhaps simply immersing herself in music.
