Come to me
Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come save me, I'm fading fast
Can't keep myself together
And maybe I just won't last
If I'm not with you forever

Now my heart is at stake, I feel, I could break
I might die if you leave
Friends, ask why I smile, it's 'cause all the while
I've got you up my sleeve

Come take me, I'm ready for
All that I've never tasted
Come wake me, let's make up for
All of the time we've wasted

Now I'm touching the stars, I'm up here on Mars
I can barely breathe
Friends, ask why I smile, it's 'cause all the while
I've got you up my sleeve

Baby, I would never leave you

Now we're touching the stars, we're up here on Mars
We can rarely breathe
I'm afraid to come down and lose what I've found
Afraid you might leave

Come save me, come save me
(Come save me, come save me)
Save me

(Save me, save me)
Come save me now

Overall Meaning

In Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman's song "Come To Me," the singers explore the theme of desperation in a romantic relationship. They sing about the fear of losing the love of their life and feeling incomplete and fragmented without them. The opening lines "Come save me, I'm fading fast, Can't keep myself together" underscore a sense of urgency and shows that without the person they love, they are falling apart.

The use of the phrase "I've got you up my sleeve" is a metaphor that suggests the person they love is their secret weapon, their strength, and their protection against the world. While the lines "Now I'm touching the stars, I'm up here on Mars, I can barely breathe" describe the rush of being in love, the feeling of euphoria that one gets when spending time with the person they love. It's almost as if these emotions are taking them away, far off into space. The final lines of the song "Come save me, come save me" are a plea from the singers to their lover to rescue them from the possibility of being alone.

Overall, "Come To Me" is a romantic ballad that describes the intense emotions of two people deeply in love. The song is a nostalgic looking back on the time they've spent apart but at the same time an expression of hope that they will never be separated again.

Fantine's Death: Come to Me
Les Misérables

Cosette, it's turned so cold
Cosette, it's past your bedtime
You've played the day away
And soon it will be night
Come to me, Cosette, the light is fading
Don't you see, the evening star appearing?
Come to me, and rest against my shoulder
How fast the minutes fly away
And every minute is colder

*Dear Fantine, Cosette will be here soon
*Dear Fantine, she will be by your side
Come Cosette. My child, where did you go?

*Be at peace, be at peace evermore
My Cosette
*Will live in my protection
Take her now
*Your child will want for nothing
Good Monsieur, you come from God in Heaven
And tell Cosette I love her
And I'll see her when I wake

Fantine's death is so much sadder in the book but this scene has done it justice. I remember throwing the book across the room, I was so upset.

BathoryBat Tell me, how was the book? Her death, I mean. What made you so upset about it?

@shadow3546

I’ll remind myself not to do when I’m near that part

@vr4312

When Fantine had her two front teeth pulled and sold because of Thenardier’s ransoms, I was beside myself — threw the book...... even resented the author.....Never had such a visceral reaction from a work of fiction.

Victor Hugo is undoubtedly one of Western civilization’s greatest minds.

@aradi96

There're so many story threads in this book where good people suffer and die a horrible death It's a very sorrowful but ultra-realistic view of human life. These things happen in real life every day...

Yes, I'm actually rather glad they left that bit out of the stage version - I can remember feeling physically sick at reading that bit. Not at the gruesome fact of having one's teeth pulled (although that's awful enough) but feeling such a gut-wrenching mix of horror and pity that someone could be forced to sink so utterly low, I actually felt ill.

Same, I need some deodorant

I can't read that line without crying, let alone watch it. Absolutely heart wrenching.

Same here. Must be allergies.
