This is the Moment
Anthony Warlow; Olivia Newton-John Lyrics

(Traditional)

What child is this, who laid to rest
On Mary's lap, is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh,
Come peasant king to own Him,
The King of Kings, salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise the song on high,
The Virgin sings her lullaby:
Joy, joy, for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary

Joy, joy, for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary

Overall Meaning

The song "This Is the Moment" by Olivia Newton-John is a beautiful rendition of the traditional Christmas carol "What Child Is This." In this song, Newton-John captures the essence of the nativity scene by describing the scene in which a child is laid to rest on Mary's lap while shepherds stand watch and angels sing with anthems sweet. The lyrics reflect the awe and reverence surrounding the birth of Jesus, who is referred to as the Christ the King.

Throughout the song, there is a call to action to bring offerings to this divine child. The mention of incense, gold, and myrrh represents the gifts brought by the three wise men or Magi. By bringing these precious gifts, the humble peasant kings acknowledge Jesus as the King of Kings, who brings salvation. The lyrics also emphasize the idea of loving hearts enshrining Jesus, symbolizing the importance of adoration and devotion to the Infant King.

The repetition of "Joy, joy, for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary" at the end of each verse reinforces the joyous occasion and the significance of the birth of Jesus. It serves as a reminder to celebrate this special moment and rejoice in the arrival of the Savior.

Overall, "This Is the Moment" beautifully tells the story of the nativity, capturing the emotions and significance of the birth of Jesus. It invites listeners to reflect on the humble beginnings of the Savior and the importance of recognizing His divinity.

This hits me in the childhood. As a little kid, I would watch this time and time again on vhs. Those were the days and I was just hypnotised by John’s amazing voice. RIP Olivia

When the concert opened in Newcastle N.S.W. I had the honor of being part of the First Aid Team at the venue. Prior to the concert and after the sound checks I had the privilege of sitting down for a coffee and chat with all three Australian outstanding artists. A privilege I will always remember.

What a wonderful time it must have been for you

@andream..

Oh agree. I had the best view from the the truss above. We would climb as they were finishing rehearsal, JF called us ‘the village people’ cos we were in harness, hard hats and carrying drop ropes! THOSE WERE THE DAYS! 😎

@Andream - and another terrific job to have at the concert - apart from the hard work I bet you had a great time.

I feel so blessed that I finally got to see these fabulous musicians perform after so many decades. I am feeling even more blessed now with ONJ a beautiful Angel with her wings and John Farnham facing such a challenge ahead of him. I always hoped there would miraculously be ‘just 1 more time’ to see them together. RIP beautiful Liv and sending Jack all the love and healing I can for a speedy recovery.
