Hope There's Someone
Antony / The Johnsons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Who'll take care of me
When I die, will I go?
Hope there's someone
Who'll set my heart free
Nice to hold, when I'm tired
There's a ghost on the horizon (there's a ghost, there's a ghost)
How can I fall asleep at night? (How can I? How can I? How can I?)
How will I rest my head?
Oh, I'm scared of the middle place
Between light and nowhere
I don't want to be the one
Left in there, left in there
There's a man on the horizon (there's a man, there's a man, there's a man)
Wish that I'd go to bed
If I fall to his feet tonight (if I fall, if I fall, if I fall)
Will I rest my head?
So here's hoping I will not drown
Or paralyze in light
And godsend I don't want to go
To the seal's watershed
Hope there's someone
Who'll take care of me
When I die, will I go?
Hope that someone
Will set my heart free
Nice to hold, when I'm tired
The song "Hope There's Someone" by Antony and the Johnsons is a melancholic ballad that expresses the singer's fear of loneliness and abandonment after death. The lyrics suggest a longing for someone to be there for him, to provide comfort and care, even after he is gone. The sense of vulnerability is emphasized throughout the song, as the singer acknowledges his fear of the unknown, and his apprehension towards the afterlife. The use of the word "hope" in the title and throughout the lyrics reflects a desire for a positive outcome, a sense of optimism amidst the fear and uncertainty.
The lyrics also make reference to a ghost on the horizon and a man on the horizon, both of which could be interpreted as symbolic representations of death, as well as the singer's longing for someone to release him from his fears and provide him with peace. The lines "I'm scared of the middle place between light and nowehere" suggest a fear of being caught in limbo, of not being able to move forward or backward after death. The use of religious imagery in lines such as "Godsend I don't want to go to the seal's watershed" adds a layer of complexity to the song, as it suggests a struggle with faith and the unknown.
Overall, "Hope There's Someone" is a poignant and emotional song that tackles the difficult subject of death and the human longing for companionship and comfort, even after we are gone.

One of the worlds best voices. Criminally underrated.

Are you serious? I can barely understand what she is singing, one or two words here and there and that's it. That's not a good singer. OK, she has a good tone, nice vibrato but her enunciation utterly sucks. Why write lyrics at all if you are going to mumble sing?
@LukeTaylorOfficial
@@ellendonahue556 I said one of the best āvoicesā, not singers. Two very different things.
