Sinners
Aquilina Lauren Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Our lives are stores, waiting to be told
In search of silver linings, we discovered gold
And judgment taught us that our hearts were wrong
But they're the ones that we'll look down upon

The rules say our emotions don't comply
But we'll defy the rules until we die
So let's be sinners to be saints
And let's be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me

You showed me feelings I've never felt before
We're making enemies, knocking on the devil's door
But how can you expect me not to eat,
When the forbidden fruit tastes so sweet?

So let's be sinners to be saints
And let's be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me

Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Let's start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Let's start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Let's start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break

So let's be sinners to be saints
And let's be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you

And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Aquilina Lauren's "Sinners" explore the idea of embracing one's flaws and imperfections in order to find a sense of happiness and fulfillment. The first verse describes how our lives are like stories waiting to be told, and how we often search for the good in things even when faced with negativity. The lyrics go on to suggest that we've been taught to believe our hearts are wrong when we don't follow society's rules and expectations. However, the singer believes that it's the people who judge us that aren't living their lives to the fullest.

The chorus encourages embracing one's flaws and living life by our own rules. The lyrics suggest that being a "sinner" can actually be a positive thing, allowing us to feel a sense of freedom and fulfillment. The singer acknowledges that the world may disapprove of their choices or lifestyle, but ultimately, their world only consists of one person - their lover. If they're "sinners," it doesn't matter as long it feels like heaven.

The second verse describes the intensity of the singer's feelings, acknowledging that they are making enemies or facing consequences for the choices they're making. However, they can't help but be drawn to it, like the sweet taste of "forbidden fruit." The bridge repeats the idea that their hearts are too wild and passionate to be tamed, and that they should embrace their flaws and start "fires" for the sake of living life to the fullest.

Overall, "Sinners" is a celebration of embracing imperfection and taking risks, even if it means going against societal norms or expectations. The lyrics encourage living life authentically and passionately, rather than trying to please others.

Nass BLBLBL These lines are a big part of why people think this:
"Let's be sinners to be saints
Let's be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels
Like heaven to me"

And then also "Knocking on the Devil's door"

This can be taken as the speaker saying they plan on going against the more traditional views of love. In modern times the most commonly viewed sin related to love is being gay.

I personally think that the meaning can be stretched to fit other things as well and that there's no set thing it's about. I feel it's more about liberation from traditional views that feel suffocating, in general.

@lilprincess_0491

Sometimes when I read the lyrics I think that it's about a gay or a lesbian couple
" The world may disapprove "
Most of the people hate LGBT and they don't like them
" So let's be sinners to be saints "
Sinners because they love a person of the same gender
" And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me "
If they love each other, even though they are LGBT, then it's like heaven for them because they love each other really much
" Judgment taught us that our hears were wrong "
The people who judged them made them feel bad (?) and they sometimes started to feel that they were wrong about their feelings and they are not supposed to be together
" The rules say our emotions don't comply "
The "rules", somehow say that we are meant to love the opposite gender, so the rules say that when we love a person of the same gender then our emotions and feelings don't comply

There was this guy named Leonard Matlovich. He was a Vietnam war veteran and he was also homosexual. Years after he was dismissed from the military, he died from Leukemia. Today written on his epitaph is "When I was in the military they gave me a medal for killing two men, and a discharge for loving one".

May be a bit irrelevant but I'll share it anyway because it speaks a message that think I we can all learn from.
