Vocalist Aidan Moffat and multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Middleton met in Falkirk, bonded over their mutual love for Drag City recording artists such as Smog and Will Oldham, and began a collaboration in 1995. The band is completed by violinist Jenny Reeve and cellist Stacey Sievewright. Arab Strap's marked characteristics include frank and forthright lyrics delivered in a Scottish brogue.
Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton confirmed the rumours about the end of Arab Strap on 8th September 2006. They celebrated their Ten Years of Tears with a tour through the UK and the rest of Europe. After UK/Europe, they made a short secret tour in Japan as the last of Arab Strap. In 2016, however, they have reunited a decade after their breakup and will be touring throughout the year 2017.

Arab Strap Lyrics

The song Kate Moss by Arab Strap is a melancholic reflection on a failing relationship, where one partner is trying to hold on while the other seems to have already given up. The lyrics speak to the singer's frustration and sadness as they watch their partner become increasingly distant and disinterested. The opening lines "Don't try and tell me Kate Moss ain't pretty. Don't try and make me believe" suggest that the other partner may be using the famous model as a way to undermine the singer's confidence and self-esteem, perhaps by suggesting that they are not attractive enough.
As the song progresses, the singer describes how their partner's behavior has become more and more hurtful, leading to a breakdown in communication and leaving the singer feeling isolated and alone. The line "You're always bored and full of shit" strikes a particularly bitter note, suggesting that the partner's lack of interest may be due to their own character flaws rather than any external circumstance. In the final lines, the singer acknowledges that the relationship is coming to an end, but there is still a sense of sadness and longing for what might have been.
Overall, Kate Moss is a poignant and understated piece of songwriting that captures the emotions of a difficult and painful breakup. The lyrics are full of subtle insights and observations, and the sparse instrumentation only serves to heighten their impact. It's a song that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the shifting dynamics of a relationship that is slowly falling apart.
