I Don't Mind
Arlo McKinley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't care where you are coming from
I guarantee that I'm as high right now as you were once
And I don't mind
No, I don't mind
No, I don't mind anymore

Goodbye never is the easy part
I never thought that I would be someone that would break your heart
But I don't mind
No, I don't mind
No, I don't mind anymore

I always hoped that I would be the one
But now i can admit that I got scared and began to run
But I don't mind
No, I don't mind
No, I don't mind anymore

No, I don't mind
No, I don't mind
No, I don't mind, anymore

No, I don't mind

No, I don't mind
No, I don't mind, anymore

Overall Meaning

Arlo McKinley's "I Don't Mind" is a powerful song about letting go of a past relationship and accepting the mistakes that were made. Throughout the song, McKinley expresses that he doesn't care about where his former lover is coming from, as he acknowledges that he was once at the same level of emotional pain.

The chorus repeats "No, I don't mind anymore", conveying the idea that McKinley has moved on from the heartbreak and pain caused by the failed relationship. He admits that saying goodbye is never easy, and he never imagined himself as someone who would break his partner's heart. However, he has come to realize his own fears and faults in the relationship and has accepted them.

The line "I always hoped that I would be the one, but now I can admit that I got scared and began to run" highlights McKinley's vulnerability and weakness in the relationship. Despite his original hopes that he could be everything his partner needed, he ultimately ran away from his emotions and fears. The refrain "No, I don't mind anymore" reinforces that he has come to terms with this and is no longer affected by the past pain.

Overall, "I Don't Mind" is a poignant song about accepting mistakes, letting go of the past, and moving forward in life.

I'm happy I went to The Burl several years ago and discovered this man. He's amazing and will bring tears to your eyes. ❤️

This is heavily heartfelt song! Reminds me of my failure of my marriage I had for 11 years and I’ve could’ve done better but I F’ed up…. But, I’ve learned a huge lesson in the end…. 7 yrs after the divorce… something we should never take life for granted….. don’t waste something that you worked hard for…. Not worth starting all over again especially at an old age. Just work hard, fight through the struggles and be there for each other…. That’s what makes a strong relationship and a pure reason to live each other, together with love, happiness and content with life. Wasting it away is like you’re not willing to fight for your own life…. Not something you would want to do with your own life, other people’s lives or relationships. We all got one shot in life to make it right…. Just Do it right.

Thanks to my friend Arlo continue to create beautiful songs, music and inspiring people to fight for love, reasons, family and life. God Bless Arlo McKinley and his Lonesome Sound Band.

Much respect and love from Cincinnati Ohio USA 🇺🇸! 👊🏻

Odd this video shows him writing, when he did note write this song. Timothy Dairl Carr wrote every song on this album. YouTube should require citing songwriter credits. That being said, I love the songs Arlo has written and his voice is a breath of a warm westerly wind with tumbleweeds rolling along. Very nice.

I rediscover my love for your art all year around. Thank you for sharing your work with the world. You’ve helped me get through some of the hardest and strangest times of my life.
Started writing music again after a taking a few years off because of the inspiration you’ve created. I dream of touring with you as an opener one day and shaking your hand after every show with a thank you for saving my from myself a few years ago. Your work is appreciated in ways you may not fully understand and I hope one day soon I can be so the same for someone else. And maybe, one day, someone will leave a message like this for me.
