Delusions of Grandeur
Art By Numbers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We've compensated our days
We've gone and done it our way
Don't fear what’s to come of us
We've done it plenty of times before

Such a road ahead
We're weighing the impossible at hand
With a break in the passage taken
A comprehension of choice to make
With a silent reserve we ponder
The lasting effects of our ways

We're stuck in this state of ecstasy through debris
Unfortunate times have fallen upon our feet
But we're leading you on to no end
We're only saying what we want you to know

Give us your attention
Taking us so far away
She said the pain is only temporary
We play, and pay her gain

Believe me when I say
We took the simple route towards an honest mistake

Returning the path we fell down almost seems too far
We'll make the most of this
Under the lights the world is ours

We're only straying from ourselves when we break our word
Don't repress it, just embrace the chance to hold on to what’s left

We're only staying until we've taken care of unfinished business

Away, Away she said
They have placed these ambitions on our hands

Overall Meaning

The song "Delusions of Grandeur" by Art By Numbers is a complex and introspective look at the choices and decisions we make in life. The first stanza sets the tone, with the band proclaiming that they have "compensated their days" and done things their own way, without fear of the consequences. They assure the listener that they have been in similar situations before, and can handle whatever comes next.

The second stanza introduces a note of uncertainty, with the band admitting that they are facing an impossible challenge. They must make choices that will have lasting effects, and they are acutely aware of the weight of their decisions. The lyric "We're stuck in this state of ecstasy through debris" suggests that despite the bleakness of the situation, they are still finding moments of joy and euphoria. However, they acknowledge that times are tough and that they are leading the listener on without any real answers.

The third stanza introduces a character known only as "she", who is offering words of encouragement to the band. Despite the pain they are going through, she promises that it is only temporary and that they will eventually make it through. However, the band is also aware that there is a price to pay for her help, and that they are giving up some of their power in the process.

The final stanza is a call to action, urging the listener to hold on to what is important and to not be afraid to make mistakes. They are only "straying from themselves" when they break their word, and it is better to acknowledge and confront their unfinished business than to ignore it. The song ends with "they" placing "ambitions" on their hands, leaving the listener to ponder exactly who "they" might be and what kind of expectations they have for the band.

It's like circa survive meets the human abstract! It's fantastic!

Isaac Warden

Space Cadet

btw, i think the vocalist is great, this song is awesome...

sorry.

speaking of Rody, how epic would him making a guest appearance be?

Brexile

You guys are wonderful. <3

Doctor Velvet

The definition of "good", especially in musical terms, is entirely subjective. Why do I have to say I like something that I don't like? I wasn't mindlessly bashing this band, simply stating exactly why I didn't enjoy them.

Doctor Velvet

I also love how you went that far back in my favorites to "prove your point" (you really don't have a point).

Greddy86

I want my Album.... NOW!!! :* <3 <3 <3

How is he an emo-styled vocalist? So he has a high voice, that doesn't matter. What about Rody from Protest the Hero or Spener from Periphery or even Ryan from Corelia. His voice isn't whiny and this wouldn't sound as good with a lower octave singer and screaming over the entire thing would just ruin it. I think the vocals compliment the music very well, but everyone is entitled to their opnion.

Space Cadet

Does anybody else think this singer sounds like the Rev a little?
