(James Haber/Ray Benson/Leroy Preston)
When we first met you were sittin' on a stool
In a bar downtown just tryin' to be cool
Well, seems everything has changed around
When I bump into you we bounce around
Bump bounce boogie, bump bounce boogie
We do the bump bounce boogie, dance like a crazy fool
(Piano/Sax)
Ah, you used to be shy, you wouldn't talk to me
Ah, but now you're nice, just as nice as can be
And when I see you smile, well I never frown
I bump into you and then we bounce around
And do the bump bounce boogie, bump bounce boogie
Bump bounce boogie, bump bounce boogie
We do the bump bounce boogie, move like a crazy fool
(Guitar)
Ah, now just last week at the dancin' hall
Ah, me and this guy, we was havin' a ball
Then somthin' hit me, I turned around
And I bumped into you and we bounced around
And did the bump bounce boogie, bump bounce boogie
Bump bounce boogie, bump bounce boogie
We did the bump bounce boogie, danced like a crazy fool
Ah, we did the bump bounce boogie, danced like a crazy fool
The song "Bump Bounce Boogie" by Asleep At The Wheel tells the story of two people who first met in a bar, with one trying to be cool and the other being shy. However, over time, the shy person becomes more comfortable and friendly, and the two of them start to enjoy each other's company. The chorus encourages the listener to join in and do the "bump bounce boogie," a silly and carefree dance that reflects the joyful mood of the song.
Musically, the song features a piano and saxophone solo, alongside a lively guitar riff. The lyrics tell a playful story of two people who connect through music and dancing, and the upbeat rhythm encourages listeners to let go of their inhibitions and dance along.
