There is a rare time when an orchestra - not just any orchestra - transforms a favored song of mine into a totally new listening experience that they've put their heart and soul into. A song which has been completely turned into the most enjoyable, the most exhilarating time my ears have had in many years.

every harmonic sound can be broken down into a combination of sine waves in the same frequency (or a factor thereof) at different amplitudes and phases. Horns and woodwinds reflect this pattern and are complex sounds which are produced by the harmonics of many sine waves. However, stringed instruments produce a near perfect sine wave which, when many of them are combined in various phases and amplitudes could be used to reconstruct the wave made by the synthesizer. So the reconstruction of the synth sound is hard, but not as hard as you think. The more impressive part are the musicians who are playing at various phases (slightly on or off beat)... Although its quite possible this is all being managed in the mixer.
