Like a Stone
Audio/slave Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good, we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go

In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on

In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

Alone

And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on

In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Audio slave's song Like a Stone speak to themes of loss, longing, and the inevitability of death. The opening lines describe a moment of aimlessness and emptiness as the singer confesses to being lost in the pages of a book full of death. The singer then reflects on the idea that if we are good in life, we'll rest in peace wherever we choose to go. The second verse delves deeper into the singer's longing for a particular person, expressed through the image of waiting for them patiently in their house like a stone.

The third verse reflects on the singer's own mortality and the idea that they will pray to the gods and angels in their final moments, longing to be taken to a place they recall from a long time ago. The final lines of the song speak to a sense of regret and the idea that the singer will wander through dreams until their death, longing to be in the house of the person they've been waiting for.

Overall, the song speaks to universal themes of longing, loss, and mortality. The lyrics are haunting and introspective, inviting the listener to contemplate their own life and the people and places they long for.

Thank you Bryan.

You know, I've Loved, borrowed and shared these words for several years now.

Please feel free to borrow and share them as well.

These words helped me out so much when I was down.
So I typed it up, printed it on pretty paper and had it laminated.
I passed out over fifty to a hundred copies throughout the years.

I appreciate your kind messages.
Have a great weekend Bryan.

My son suffered from depression, he took his own life 2/4/24. Ever since his death I hear this song in my head, when I wake up, during the day and at night it will pop into my head. I am devastated and will never get over my sons death. I want to wake up from this nightmare but I can’t. I miss my son so much. Rip Brandon my heart is forever broken. To anyone who suffers from depression know that what suicide leaves behind to family and friends is a never ending hell. Stay strong, get help and call a loved one to help you through your pain.

@amrodriguez4989

@wetworksyt4446
