For Your Eyes Only
B. Conti Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My love must be a kind of blind love
I can't see anyone but you
Sha bop sha bop

Are the stars out tonight
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
I only have eyes for you dear
The moon may be high
But I can't see a thing in the sky
I only have eyes for you

I don't know if we're in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue

You are here and so am I
Maybe millions of people go by

But they all disappear from view
And I only have eyes for you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "For your eyes only" by Bill Conti convey the feelings of infatuation and the intensity of being in love. The song opens with the singer expressing that he cannot see anyone but the person he is in love with. The repetition of "Sha bop sha bop" highlights the singer's sense of being completely enamored with the other person, making him unable to see anyone else but them. The next few lines suggest that the singer is so consumed by his love that he is oblivious to his surroundings. The verse "Are the stars out tonight / I don't know if it's cloudy or bright / I only have eyes for you dear" underlines the singer's focus on his lover, making the environment, weather, and other distractions irrelevant. The following verse, "The moon may be high / But I can't see a thing in the sky / I only have eyes for you" reinforces that the singer's unequivocal attention is devoted entirely to his significant other.

The second half of the song, "I don't know if we're in a garden / Or on a crowded avenue / You are here and so am I / Maybe millions of people go by / But they all disappear from view / And I only have eyes for you," builds on the previous lines' imagery while highlighting the singer's perception of being in a continual daze. He is unsure of their surroundings even though they could be anywhere, on a busy street or a garden, but it doesn't matter as all he can see is his lover. The final line of the song "And I only have eyes for you" reinforces the song's central theme that the singer is consumed by his lover that they are a part of him, and he is incomplete without them.

FYEO was one of the best movies in the Bond series, with the main character going back to the original spy from the books. The story was simple bud solid, the photography was just fantastic, Bill Conti's music was excellent and that motorcycle chase scene is still one of the best in the Bond series.

I love this intstrumental version of Sheena's alluring Bond theme and I loved it when this played during the underwater scene with Moore and Bouquet together. Thanks for posting!

How fantastic does this beautiful composition make you feel inside !!!

Yes, I cannot get over the beautiful scenic locations in For Your Eyes Only, and the theme justifies everything in that movie. I am rather impressed at Daniel Craig's heartless type of killing behavior!

Neil Young

This is so beautiful. There were some great films in the early eighties and this was one of them. It may not have had the spectacle of The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, but it had a more thoughtful, realistic and romantic feel to it, as personified by the music played here. The way the song develops around 1.02 is absoluetly lovely. Roger was the best Bond, and I think the modern Bond films lack the charisma and heart that he and FYEO had.

Julian Gale

Really good instrumental version of the excellent title song, which I would rank as among the best in the series.

This was the B-Side of the Sheena-Easton-single and I still love it even more than the A-side. 😏

Steven Leong

Absolutely beautiful. This and All Time High are my favorite Bond theme songs.
