I Love to Love
BRIAN MAY AND THE MELBOURNE SOUND Lyrics

Love in a rainbow (love in a rainbow, love in a rainbow)

Make love in a rainbow
Give love and be free
Make love, make the day glow
Love gives you everything you need

Find love in a rainbow
Give love to a friend
Make love, make the pain go
Love finds you at the rainbow's end

Breathe in, every colour in the sky
Taste the gentle rain as all your dreams go dancing by
Calling you away

Dream dreams in a rainbow
Make new flowers grow
Sweet love in a rainbow
Love finds you everywhere you go

Make love in a rainbow
Sweet dreams guaranteed
Make love, make the rain go
Love gives you everything you need

How long did you wish upon that star?
Know your golden angel loves you just the way you are

Pulling you away (make love in a rainbow) pulling you away
Love in a rainbow
(Make love in a rainbow)
(Love) love in a rainbow (love in a rainbow)
(Love in a rainbow, love in a rainbow)
(Love in a rainbow, love in a rainbow)

Believe in a rainbow
No bridge too far
Make love in a rainbow
Love makes you everything you are

(Make love in a rainbow) make love, make love
(Sweet dreams guaranteed) sweet dreams guaranteed
(Make love, make the rain go)
Love gives you everything you need

Love in a rainbow (love in a rainbow)
Love in a rainbow (love in a rainbow)
Make love in a rainbow (love in a rainbow)
(Love in a rainbow) make love in a rainbow

(Love in a rainbow) love in a rainbow
(Love in a rainbow) love in a rainbow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I Love to Love" by Brian May and the Melbourne Sound tells the story of a dysfunctional family. The parents, Mama and Papa, are both in love, but not with each other. The situation has reached a critical point, as Papa is in trouble and Mama is angry. Despite the difficult situation, everyone is trying to find a way to keep things together. Mama is trying to keep the fire smokin', while Papa is holding on to his old love token. The song tells us that it's not enough to just have love; you need to have style and find out what your love is for.

The chorus of the song tells the story of Mama and Papa arguing, both trying to get the upper hand. Papa accuses Mama of acting like a demon, while Mama tells Papa not to talk to her that way. They both accuse each other of not providing comfort, and it is clear that their love has run its course. Mama is still hanging on to every word, hoping for a change, but Papa is holding on to his old love token, a symbol of his past love.

The song ends with the realization that it's time to move on. Mama and Papa don't want to be alone, but they have to face the reality of their situation. The song reminds us that we need to hold on to what is important, our love token, and find a way to make it fit like a glove. We need to keep a hold of what we love, even when things get tough.
