Badlands was a short-lived rock band founded by Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee and Black Sabbath members Ray Gillen and Eric Singer. Badlands also featured bassist Greg Chaisson. After the first Badlands album, Eric Singer was replaced by Jeff Martin. Eric Singer later played drums on the Greg Chaisson solo album It’s About Time. They existed from 1988 to 1992 and released three albums, Badlands (1989), Voodoo Highway (1991), and Dusk (originally recorded in 1993-1992 and released posthumously in 1998).
Greg Chaisson and Jeff Martin later played in the bands Blindside Blues Band and RedSea.
Jake E. Lee was not getting along with Ray Gillen to the point where Ray left the band as Jake was already telling magazines he was fired and being replaced. Ray went to New York City to record Sun Red Sun with old friends but died from an AIDS related disease in a New York Hospital on December 1, 1993.

Badlands Lyrics

Shadows remain of the words that were never spoken
All the years that we once held in our hands
Just leave us to wonder
Still the winds are changing all the time
But I know it's too late
The seasons all gone by, oh, whoa
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Seasons can wait 'till a thousand years have come and gone
Stories we wrote
All the days that were never counted
Time alone
All the dreams we thought would never die
But then there's tomorrow
For these dreams will save our lonely times
But I know it's too late
The seasons all gone by, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Hear the crashing sound as time slips away
Feel the thunder ride the road
Wearing this chain on my hands that I'm sure to bare
Oh, love rain on you forever more, oh
Oh, listen
I know it's late, and the evening's gently giving ground
Shadows remain of the words that were never spoken
Though I dream
Sometimes dreams are all I know
Leave us to wonder
Though the winds are changing all the time
But I know it's too late
The seasons all gone by, oh, whoa
But I know it's too late
The seasons all gone by, oh, oh, oh
But I know it's too late
The seasons all gone by
Oh, feels so good, oh
And you feel so good, oh, oh
And things must change
Oh, for the center is now, oh
You can feel a change
There's something in ya all
You just don't know
Listen
Oh, oh
But I know it's too late
The seasons all gone bye
The song Seasons by Badlands appears to be an introspective reflection on the passage of time and the missed opportunities that can come with it. Seasons reference the different stages of life and how they pass us by without realizing it. The opening lines set the melancholic tone of the song, as the singer acknowledges that it is late and the daylight is fading away. Shadows remain of the words that were never spoken, and the years that we once held in our hands are now gone, leaving us to wonder about the things we could have done differently. The singer seems to have accepted this reality as they acknowledge that the winds of time are ever-changing, but it is too late to alter the course of the past.
However, the song also appears to offer some hope. The singer acknowledges that seasons can wait a thousand years to come and go, and that there are stories to be written and dreams that can still come true. Tomorrow is a new day, and it holds the promise of new possibilities. The thundering sound of time slipping away is a reminder to make the most of each moment, and although there might be chains on our hands, the love we give will remain forever. The song's closing lines are an affirmation that things must change and that there is always something more waiting for us, even if we don't know what it is.

1989 I had lost everything and was starting over in some of the darkest days of my life. This song helped my lay the past to rest and continue on with the faint hope of a new tomorrow. Hearing this song makes me reflect on those days not with despair nor triumph, but a thankfulness in my self belief to keep going on. Such a pretty song during a cruel time for me. God bless.

This may be one of the truly UNDERRATED bands in my life time!!! So damn pure and still amazing after all the years since they wrote this. Just brilliant.

I've been listening to metal since I was 7 years old I am 50 now. I never heard a voice like this from any metal band. His melody is is out of this world. I have to listen to it every night before I go to sleep. His voice is haunting. I hear it in my head while I'm at work. Great voice, great composition.

The late Ray Gillen is easily one of the BEST vocalists in rock history! He was amazing!!

M Cohen Ray was a great singer. As a person contaminating women with AIDS is not much of a person to look up to. Also its said that is reason there isnt reissues as families are charging record company (as there propably wasnt much to get from Ray's money he left behind). Sad story, but happy they made this record and Voodoo Highway. Dusk that can be found on Spotify is more of bunch of demos. Like you said he was a remarkable singer.

I heard Gillen sing in San Antonio, Tx 1986, on the Sabbath tour after Glenn H could not perform... Great vocalist... Don’t know NE thing else personally about him... Just remember the night in question... 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

@atteljas appearently it's a lifetime ban on any reissues of the Badlands catalog as part of the settlement with the families of the women Ray infected. Sad shame!!!

Randy Wissler Thats exactly what Ive heard. It is such a shame for people not being really able to discover them. And its sort of like they did great job, produced great music... for what?

@atteljas have you heard any of Ray's stuff that he did with the band Sun Red Sun? It was after Badlands broke up. It's a whole lot harder stuff than Badlands. He did 3 songs on that album. They are on YouTube. One of the songs, Lock me up, has a real Anthrax vibe to it. Well worth checking out!!
