All I've Ever Known
Bahamas Lyrics

Between my teeth a knife
Pronounced us man and wife
For evermore
'Cause once you've found your thrill
You move in for the kill
I'd chase you up the hill
And now my memory
Seems to be failing me
What once was fantasy
Is all I've ever known
The thing I miss the most
Lives in some demon host
I know you're not a ghost
Just down the street
I am a spinning man
A living ceiling fan
If two could only hang
In the same room once again
And now my memory
Seems to be failing me
What once was fantasy
Is all I've ever known
The song "All I've Ever Known" by Bahamas features a melancholic and introspective tone that tells the story of a love that has gone by. The opening line, "In every breath, there's life," refers to the energy and vitality that comes with living, but also highlights the fragility of life, to which the following line makes reference to. The second line, "Between my teeth a knife" can be interpreted in a few ways, but it may suggest the fear or anxiety that goes with commitment, and how it can feel like you are holding a weapon that could hurt you or someone else.
Bahamas then sings of the moment he and his partner became husband and wife, and how at that moment, he believed their love would last forever. He describes the pursuit of love as a thrill, something that propels one to chase and fight for what they love. However, this pursuit can turn dangerous, denoted by the line "you move in for the kill." Bahamas then repeats the desire to chase his love up the hill, indicating that he still longs for this connection.
The chorus of the song highlights the pain that comes with heartbreak, and how the memories that once seemed like fantasies are now all that he knows. The second verse takes on a darker tone, one of desperation, and a feeling of loss. He describes the thing he misses the most living within a demon host. This may refer to something about himself, the love he has lost, or could be interpreted in various ways. The final lines suggest a yearning to reconnect with his love in a way that could restore what has been lost, but also acknowledges the impossibility of that kind of reunion.
