The band was formed in June 2007 by Daniel Schmidt, Christian Kalle, Robert Kerner and Jan Siekmann. In 2008, the band signed to EMI Virgin Records and during that year they won the Jägermeister Rock: Liga Video Contest and Beck's On Stage Festival Challenge.
The band toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland in spring 2009.

A friend of mine was listening to German songs on youtube to help her in her basic German class. I heard "Alles war aus Gold!" and thought the song sounded great. Then when I took a quick look at the video I saw how good-looking the vocalist was, I started searching for other Bakkushan songs and loved them all. Even when I got home I would just hum along (no one speaks German in our house so my family is giving me a weird look every now and then because they do not understand a single word. I told them it's a cool German band). Now I am beginning to think if I should take up German class too so that I could at least sing along. Looking at the lyrics written in German without any knowledge in the language is as bad as not reading any lyrics at all...

Generally not a fan of indie (much prefer a nice large dose of metal for my music needs) but I heard Bakkushan for the first time on a school trip to Berlin in 2010 when they were MTV Deutschland's "All Eyes On" band and thought they were really good so decided to check them out. I liked what I heard.
