In 2005, the group disbanded and Almalbis went on to pursue a solo career, while Rommel dela Cruz soon became the bassist of Freestyle (the original bassist migrated to Australia).
Hungry Young Poets (aka HYP) was founded in the Philippines as a duo in 1997 by Barbie Almalbis (guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter) and Ricci Gurango (bassist). After releasing their one self-titled album, Franklin Benitez (drummer) would officially complete the trio.
In 1998, Gurango left the band to lead cover band, Little Green Men,[1], before forming MOJOFLY. With Gurango's assertion of rights to the band's name, Almalbis and Benitez would later rename the group, Barbie's Cradle.

And maybe tell me all your dreams
Talk to me like you would in your sleep
Don't censor anything
'Cause I want to hear everything
There's no innocence left to spoil
You can swear she's not a little boy
Where they will never find us
Use your wings and I will run fast
'Cause that's what I do when I'm not afraid
We've got it made up in our heads
We don't have to wait for anyone or anything
Go anywhere we desire
So close your eyes become blind
From the world listen instead to the girl
She'll tell you why she chose to fly
And you're left behind
Just like me alone and free
We can smile when we've filled the void
And treated the burn
But until then I believe
We're gonna have to learn
To discard any disguise we're using
Yes it's hard and it's never amusing
The song "The Dance" by Barbie's Cradle begins with an invitation to dance and an invitation to share dreams. The singer encourages the listener to speak freely and not to censor themselves, promising that they want to hear everything. The song speaks of a desire to escape from the world, to fly away to a place where they won't be found. The lyrics suggest that the singer and the listener have made up a world in their heads in which they don't have to wait for anyone or anything - they can go where they want, and be who they want to be. The chorus tells the listener to ignore the world, to listen instead to the inner voice, the girl who tells them why she chose to fly. The song ends with the suggestion that they will have to learn to be themselves without using any disguises, because true happiness comes from being authentic.
The song speaks to the desire we all have for freedom, for a place where we can be ourselves without fear or judgment. It suggests that the fear of being ourselves is what keeps us from finding happiness, and that the key to true happiness is embracing our true selves. The lyrics are both introspective and hopeful, offering a message of empowerment to anyone who feels trapped or stifled by the expectations of society.
