Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."

It only takes a moment
For your eyes to meet and then
Your heart knows in a moment
You will never be alone again
I held her for an instant
But my arms felt sure and strong
It only takes a moment
Clerk:
I missed a few words back there, mr. hackl.
Right after 'it only'...
All in docket:
...takes a moment!
But his arms felt sure and strong
It only takes a moment
Mrs. molloy:
He held me for an instant
But his arms felt safe and strong
It only takes a moment
To be loved a whole life long
Cornelius:
And that is all
That love's about
Mrs. molloy:
And we'll recall when time runs out
Both:
That it only took a moment
To be loved a whole life long!
The lyrics to Barbra Streisand's song "It Only Takes a Moment" depict a beautiful and powerful connection between two individuals. The first verse, sung by Cornelius, describes how quickly and effortlessly eyes can meet and hearts can recognize the possibility of never being alone again. In a fleeting instant, he holds the person he loves, and in that moment, his arms feel secure and strong. This demonstrates that love can be found and cherished within a short span of time.
The song then transitions to the clerk, who asks Mr. Hackl to repeat the missing words after "it only." The response from the whole group indicates that "it only takes a moment" for love to fully envelop someone. The repetition emphasizes the certainty that love can bring, reinforcing the idea that even a brief period of time can create a lasting impact.
Mrs. Molloy joins in and adds her perspective to the story. She recounts how Cornelius held her for a brief instant, but in that moment, she felt safe and protected in his embrace. Again, the lyrics emphasize that love doesn't need a lifetime to develop – it only takes a moment to experience the depth and security of genuine love.
The final section sung by both characters reflects on the meaning of love. They present the idea that love is not about the passage of time, but rather the profound connection felt within that moment. As time runs out, they are confident that they will always remember how, in just a moment, they found a love that could last a lifetime. The repetition of the phrase "it only took a moment" serves as a reminder of the incredible power and significance of love, even if it appears briefly.
Overall, the lyrics to "It Only Takes a Moment" convey the idea that love has the ability to transcend time and leave a lasting impact in just a single moment. The song emphasizes the deep emotional connection experienced between the characters and highlights the beauty of love, which can be found and cherished even in the briefest of encounters.
