Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Nobody's Heart /When The Sun Comes Out
Barbra Streisand Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the rain stops beating
On my window pane
When the sun comes out
There'll be blue birds 'round my door
Singing like they did before
And my man walked off
Left me in the rain
Though he's gone I doubt
If he'll stay away for good
I'd stop living if he should
Love is funny,
It's not always peaches, cream and honey
Just when everything seemed
Bright and sunny
Suddenly the cyclone came
I'll never be the same
Till the sun comes out
And the rain stops beating on my window pane
If my heart holds out
Let it rain, let it pour
It may not be long before
There's a knocking at my door
Then you'll know the one I love walked in
When the sun comes out
And the rain stops beating on my window pane
If my heart holds out
Let it rain, let it pour
It may not belong before
There's a knocking at my door
Then you'll know the one I love walked in
When the sun comes out
Barbra Streisand’s “When the Sun Comes Out” is a beautiful ballad that describes the feeling of hope and optimism that comes with sunshine after a period of rain. The first verse describes a scene of brightness and renewed hope after enduring a storm. When the sun comes out, there is the promise of bluebirds and happier times. However, the second verse is bittersweet, acknowledging that love can be unpredictable and stormy, leading to heartbreak and disappointment. The song is then resolved with the comforting idea of the sun shining once again and the possibility of love returning. The final verse shares the hopeful sentiment that one’s heart will hold out, and a knocking at the door signifies the return of the beloved one.
The song’s lyrics are open to interpretation and can be applied to various stages of life, whether it’s overcoming difficult moments or celebrating new beginnings. The song’s melody is simple, but the lyrics are layered, expressing the contrast of emotions that are often present in complex situations. The song ends with a sense of cautious hope, that despite the possibility of more storms, the sun will always come out again.

Fabulous!! I saw Barbra on this tour in Atlanta! She didn't sing these songs, but she sang plenty of others--and chatted--and it was one enchanted evening. My night was Nov. 2, 2006!
