BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. We know the truth
Still we don't stand
Still we don't choose.
We'd rather stay
So comfortable
Stuck in our world under control.
Stand by and watch and pretend not to see.
Silence is worse, then evil done what in the world have we become?
Can't you see that
This is war,
So pick your side.
It's time to move, not time to hide.
Don't let lies, make up your mind.
Cause you will see,
We're running out of time.
Tomorrow they'll come,
And one day we'll see,
The choices we make, made history.
For it's to late,
When will you stand and chose our words while you still can,
Can't you see that
This is war,
So pick your side.
It's time to move, not time to hide.
Don't let lies, make up your mind.
Cause you will see,
We're running out of time.
Running out of time.
Running out of time.
Can't you see that
This is war,
So pick your side.
It's time to move, not time to hide.
Don't let lies, make up your mind.
Cause you will see,
We're running out of time.
Running out of time!
BarlowGirl's song "Running Out Of Time" is a call to action to wake up to the realities of the world we live in. The lyrics highlight the fact that even though we know what is happening around us, most of us are too comfortable to choose a side and stand up for what is right. We often stand by and watch as the world turns to chaos without taking any action, pretending like we do not see what is happening around us. The lyrics argue that our silence on important issues is worse than any evil that happens because it allows the evil to continue.
The song emphasizes that we are running out of time and that tomorrow is not a guarantee. The choices we make daily have the potential to make history and our inaction can have dire consequences. The lyrics call on listeners to choose a side and take action, to move and not hide, and not to let lies make up their minds. The song is a wakeup call to listeners, urging them to stand up and fight for what is right before it's too late.
Overall, "Running Out Of Time" by BarlowGirl is a powerful song that encourages listeners to think about their role in the world and take action. It challenges us to be awake and aware of the issues surrounding us and to not be passive in the face of adversity. It's a song that will no doubt resonate with anyone who feels a sense of helplessness in the world.
