seasons
Baroness Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where are the seasons that have passed?
Wouldn't they wait?
They're staring outside the window crack
Swimming inside me

Where are the shadows I have cast?
Wouldn't they wait?
Didn't they find the way out?
Living inside me

We fall
We rise
We bend, we break
We burn but we survive

Forget me when I'm gone
Settle in, don't forget to go to bed
You tucked your fingers away

All of the seasons that I have lost
Where did they run and hide?
Where do we go when the well runs dry?
Seasons, all we know

We fall
We rise
We bend, we break
We burn but we survive

We fall
We rise
We bend, we break
We burn but we survive
We fall
We rise

We bend, we break
We burn but we survive

Overall Meaning

The opening lyrics of Baroness's song "Seasons" seem to suggest a nostalgic reflection on the passage of time and the inevitability of change. The singer queries about the whereabouts of past seasons, wondering if they would linger a bit longer or if they have faded away like shadows. The imagery of staring outside the window crack and swimming inside the singer evokes a sense of longing and introspection, highlighting the emotional depth and complexity of the themes explored in the song.

As the lyrics progress, the singer further contemplates the shadows they have cast and questions if these shadows have also found a way to escape or if they are still lingering within. This introspective reflection on the self and the impact one leaves on the world around them adds a layer of introspection and self-examination to the narrative. The repetition of "Living inside me" emphasizes the internal struggle and the constant presence of these shadows or past actions within the singer's psyche.

The chorus of the song conveys a sense of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. The repeated phrases "We fall, we rise, we bend, we break, we burn but we survive" encapsulate the cycle of life's challenges and the enduring spirit to overcome obstacles. This message of endurance and inner strength resonates throughout the song, offering a sense of hope and determination in the face of life's uncertainties and hardships.

The closing verses of the song continue to explore themes of loss and change, as the singer reflects on the seasons that have been lost and the inevitability of transition. The questioning of where lost seasons go and what happens when the well runs dry reflects on the transient nature of time and the constant evolution of life. The final repetition of the chorus reinforces the message of perseverance and resilience, reminding listeners of the capacity to endure and survive despite the challenges and uncertainties that may come their way. Overall, "Seasons" by Baroness is a poignant reflection on the passage of time, the complexities of life, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

The Relief

Where are the seasons that have passed?
Wouldn't they wait?
They're staring outside the window crack
Swimming inside me.

Where are the shadows I have cast?
Wouldn't they wait?
Didn't they find the way out,
Living inside me?

We fall.
We rise.
We bend.
We break.
We burn but we survive.

Forget me when I'm gone.
Settle in and don't forget to go to bed.
You tucked your fingers away.
All of the seasons that I have lost,
Where did they run and hide?
Where do we go when the well runs dry,
And the seasons are all that we know?

We fall.
We rise.
We bend.
We break.
We burn but we survive.

We fall.
We rise.
We bend.
We break.
We burn but we survive.

We fall.
We rise.
We bend.
We break.
We burn but we survive.

I don´t know what to think, i feel like there is an enormous wall of noise in front of me, and sometimes it´s a bit hard to appreciate the great compositions that baroness is able to make. Anyway, i love the song and the feeling that generates all that big amount of noise.

Jack Kocha

the bass line in this is beautiful

Marcus Åkerman

@Ishmael Seneca how do you mean? It’s very clear.

CheeseTaterson

Agreed; really feels like Nick let loose on this album, which as a fellow bassist, it's great to hear that and so prominent in the mix!

Ishmael Seneca

I wish I could distinguish it.

Lord UND, Himself

I got into Baroness on Blue Record (then doubled back to Red Album). I loved how they were heavy but somehow were able to put this sort of bright and beautiful layer into their songs unlike most metal acts. They're definitely not as heavy anymore, but they still have that beauty that sets them apart from other bands many try to compare them to. I'm always looking forward to what magic they come up with next.

D3Mp5

This is not the same band who wrote Blue or Red, either literally or figuratively.

It's different, some people like it, so I guess at least there's that. I hope you guys really enjoy this album.

maverator

That's my story too. I downloaded Jake Leg off some music website and was hooked ever since.

Elliott Stone

Same order I listened to them.

Love a song that you definitely don’t know where it’s gonna end to. And sick Death sweatshirt from Gina 🤘
