My Everything
Barry White & Faith Evans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

We got it together, didn't we
We've definitely got our thing together don't we baby
Isn't that nice
I mean really, when really sit and think about it
Isn't it really, really nice

I can easily feel myself slipping
In more and more ways
That super world of my own
Nobody but you and me

We've got it together baby

My first, my last, my everything
And the answer to all my dreams
You're my sun, my moon, my guiding star
My kind of wonderful, that's what you are

I know there's only, only one like you
There's no way they could have made two
You're, you're all I'm living for, your love I'll keep forevermore
You're the first, you're the last, my everything

In you I've found so many things
A love so new, only you could bring
Can't you see it's you? You make me feel this way
You're like a fresh morning dew on a brand new day

I see so many ways that I
Can love you 'til the day I die
You're my reality, yet I'm lost in a dream
You're the first, the last, my everything

I know there's only, only one like you
There's no way they could have made two
Girl, you're my reality, but I'm lost in a dream
You're the first, you're the last, my everything

You and me baby

It's you, and me
And you are the first, the last, my everything

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Barry White and Faith Evans's song "My Everything" express a profound sense of unity and love between two people. The opening lines convey a sense of reassurance and affirmation that the couple has a strong bond that sets them apart. The repetition of "We've got it together" highlights the deep connection and understanding they share with each other. It reflects a sense of contentment and gratitude for the special relationship they have built together.

As the lyrics progress, the heartfelt declaration of the partner being "My first, my last, my everything" signifies the depth of love and devotion the singer feels for their significant other. The imagery of the partner as their "sun, moon, guiding star" and "kind of wonderful" emphasizes the central role this person plays in their life. The use of celestial metaphors conveys a sense of awe and admiration for their loved one.

The lyrics further delve into the uniqueness and irreplaceability of the partner, emphasizing that they are one of a kind and the singer's sole source of joy and fulfillment. The commitment to love and cherish this person "forevermore" underscores the enduring nature of their relationship. The imagery of the partner bringing a "love so new" and making the singer feel like a "fresh morning dew" evokes feelings of renewal and happiness in their presence.

Towards the end of the song, the lyrics express a sense of profound love and devotion that transcends reality and borders on the surreal. The juxtaposition of "reality" and "lost in a dream" reflects the depth and intensity of emotions felt for the partner. The repetition of "You're the first, the last, my everything" reinforces the idea that this person holds a central, irreplaceable role in the singer's life. The closing lines bring the focus back to the unity and connection between the couple, reiterating that it is "you and me baby" and that the partner is indeed the "first, the last, my everything."

[Barry White]
Faith, I've got Faith (say what?)
(Can't stop, can't stop, no, uh uh can't stop)
[Faith]
My first, my last, my everything, yeah
I've had love in my life
But I've never had a lover
Who can keep me satisfied always
Feels as good as when it started
Ever since the day I felt ya
Never knew no love departed, baby
[Barry]
1 - You're the first, my last, my everything
And you are the answer to my dreams
[Faith]
2 - There ain't no doubt about it
No way to get around it
Now I know I need you
Are my everything
I can leave, I can try
But I'll never find another
Who can please me quite the way
That you do (That's right, um hmm)
I don't mean to brag about it (no, no)
But you can't get around it
And I'm gonna be here for you always, yeah
[Barry]
Baby, I've looked far and wide
But I've never found
Anyone quite like you (say what?)
Baby, please, you know I just hate
To wait
Repeat 1
Repeat 2
[Barry]
Don't keep me waiting
For I have discovered
My wants and my passion for you (say what?)
[Faith]
You'll never have to wait again
Cuz baby I feel about the same for you
(I feel the same way too)
(Say what, say what?)
Repeat 2 & 1 until fade

I used to work with Barry White all the time in Las Vegas in the mid 1990's. I would either engineer or second engineer. So here's the story of how the vocals for this track came down... for those interested. Faith Evans crew was completely amateur. They flew in to Vegas to record with Barry White, who is R&B royalty. The way that works is everything is ready to go at the time Barry is scheduled to begin... and then we wait for Barry to show up a few minutes or even a couple of hours late. That's the way it works.

Well those Bozos weren't with the program. They were staying at the Desert Inn hotel, they were supposed to bring the 2" multi-track to the studio HOURS before the start time... HOURS... no tape. So I drive OVER to their hotel suite and pound on the door. No one answers. I call the A&R rep back at the label and keep them informed.

2" tape requires set-up time to do right and according to spec. You have to calibrate playback and record in accordance to how the tape was originally set-up. This process takes about an hour or so to do right on a 24 track.

Barry shows up... a little late but normal. I believe his guy's name was Frank. If I remember correctly Frank was PPPPPPISSSED to begin with. Barry rolls in and says "f this" and leaves. Then the Bad Boy entourage finally shows up with tape in hand... late AF. Barry has already left. Those amateurs thought they'd roll in late on Barry and everything was fine... some no name producer I can't remember who was high AF.

Anyways, several calls were made between the label and Barry's people and after a new number was discussed after this insult, vocals were recorded.

But the track was already overdue for the movie and this BS wasn't helping. I think it ended up at the very end of the movie when it was supposed to be in the beginning.

Barry was a good guy. He had his moments. But you just don't treat big names like that... go missing, show up late, and roll in like you own the place and expect everyone to wait for you. Diva behavior from a no-name entourage.

Worst It Is Not Known. People Stopped Playing CD's In Full. Not Like That With Our Albums. I Believe Those Who Were Born In The 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's And Up To 2010 Have Benefited Hearing Music At Highest. Now It Is What It Is. The Quality Has Dropped. Lets Play It Back.

@pliv1

The song played to both of their talents. There hasnt been a singer like white or hayes, that sound they had. It wasn't just their voice but their actual musical instrument playing ability that set them apart. The only sad element is that clown in the back ground of this song

@RnBReworked

One of my favourite tracks of all time - Stevie J production at its finest. had the Money Talks Soundtrack and played it til it broke. I’m only here cos it’s not on Spotify or Tidal.

@shaunasmith5065
