Bastion wasn't anything special IN GAME PLAY, it had a nice solid combat system and flowed really well. However the Storyline, Narration, Soundtrack and Art style made it easily the best game I've ever played. If you have not picked up bastion yet wtf are you doing here get it right now. My only problem is I can't forgot the game and replay it and experience it all over again.

One of the more powerful games emotionally for me. The whole sequence of carrying Zulf just tugged on my heartstrings. A brilliant marriage of story and mechanics. The soundtrack is just amazing and always brings me back to that moment. Love it.

The minute I heard the narrator imply Zulf was hurt, I thought "I have to save him". Sure Zulf destroyed the Bastion, at least he at least tried to make peace, also the fact that he never actively tried to kill you. Besides I rather have someone to bring to the Bastion rather than just a lunky battering ram. Seriously, that ram just made fights boring

+JewishPharaoh I feel that what makes this game so awesome is, not the gameplay, not the art, not the areas, not the narrator. Its the feeling. This game is short. Beat it in 7 hours. But what it pours out.....its so amazing. It seriously tugs at all the right places. You legitimately fear for EVERYONE in this game. EVERYONE. Zia. Ruck. Your own pets. Definantly Zulf. But i feel you fear more for the kid. Why? Well he goes through so much. but it seem , as the narrator says, he just...doesnt ever seem sad. He tries to keep his head up. And....that scene when you finally are back in bastion after beating zulf and carrying him back. "Get up kid.......come on now......get up......Kid......This isnt funny kid.....get up....please...." OMG! At that moment i really though he was gonna die. I was legitimately afraid he was gonna die after saving Zulf.

Bastion gives us a good life lesson. On the first choice, restore, it gives us a chance to bring everything back. But, the time will come where the calamity will destroy everything again. This choice gives you a temporary feeling of happiness yet, an eternal feeling of pain. It's wrong.

Whilst the second choice, it teaches you the most valuable lesson in life. Moving on. accepting the fact that you cant bring everything back.

But its up to you guys whether you interpret the game the same way that I did.

@Nathaniel Davies I've played New Game Plus over and over again. Finished the game with all gods invoked, tried new weapon synergies, beaten time records in Proving Grounds.

Never in my playthrough have the story strayed far from what it was before Restoration. You would even get bits of dialogue from Rucks that he feels that he have said this stuff before.

All Restoration Playthroughs still lead to the Calamity destroying everything.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall the game saying that history would take the same path if you chose to reset, nor how far back it would go. As someone who doesn't believe in fate I found the first option less disagreeable than a lot of the comments seem to see it.

I don't get why that's the "lesson" you get. I think people who just sail off are cowards who don't really want to try. Standing on principle is hard. When countless millions of lives are in your hands, I'm not just sailing off and pretending like it's somebody else's problem. Having confidence and certainty in an outcome is a luxury, not a god-given right.

Ditto to the problems with racism and the Ura. It's complicated, it's messy and people always pretend it's not real or not their problem. Just like in real life.

It’s been a good 8 years, but the ending still hits like a brick wall. I missed this game so much it hurts. And that’s good, because that made me find it again. Played it when I was back in my old home, and never realized the beauty of these songs, now I sit here in a new house crying uncontrollably about all my memories both good and bad and how I pushed on, and never gave up. Now the old home is being sold, and I’ll never see it again, and I’m in pain because I’ll never get to see the place I grew up ever again. I’ll never get to say hi to old friends and new ones. I’ll never be welcome in the place I figured out how to live and function. The very place I lost my best friends. The very same place I learned what was right and wrong. 10 good years of my life gone. But I’ll keep pressing on just like everyone says to, as much as it hurts to leave it.

I was just casually listening to build that wall, and then mother im here started playing, aka "the relentless attack of the feels". this game was amazing, but the soundtrack was the best part of the experience. (in my opinion)

@VirunusGaming I haven't played Transistor yet (it's in my queue), but I think the gameplay for Bastion is excellent. It has a SUPER robust (real time) combat system that allows you to try out and switch out different weapons, each of which plays differently, has its own set of upgrades, and their own special moves. You can really play how you want, and the game has a system to encourage you to really learn how to use each one. It's one of my new favorite RPG combat systems.

I loved Transistor but on the surface Bastion seems a lot more generic, and their newer game seems awful to me so I don't feel like I can justify buying it just because they happened to make Transistor, which was a good game.

I relate to Zulf and always found his story personally hard-hitting. The only difference between him and I, is that he's naive and only learned all the painful lessons at the end of his life and not the start. Zia has no illusions about belonging. Zulf thought he could find love and acceptance, only to learn that he's only tolerated as long as he's not an inconvenience. He's a pet and a token. Fed the scraps by the door so long as he doesn't disrupt the order of things.

Then he turned to the Ura only to find out that he doesn't belong there either. Some people are doomed to be that. Always stuck on the outside looking in. It's just harder-hitting for Zulf because he had the brief illusion of happiness. A bastard Ura that nobody likes either way.

I think the Transistor OST is equal to the Bastion OST, honestly. They're completely different styles, reliant on their stories, and therefore set completely different settings. They should not be compared fundamentally based on which one is "superior" because they're both phenomenal in their own ways.

Indeed. I picked up Bastion during the summer Steam sale and I'm honestly kind of ashamed I hadn't picked it up sooner (friends had recommended it to me before but I just never got around to it)? The soundtrack and the narration are so compelling and beautiful. I remember hearing Zia's theme for the first time and I just sat there for a couple minutes listening to it. So good.

Around when this game first came out, one of my friends had a pile of game keys that they won from a giveaway. Bastion was one of those keys, and they gave me a choice between that and X2, and so I picked bastion.

Now, after dumping a bunch of hours into Hades, it's easy to appreciate the work of Barrett, Korb, and Supergiant Games as a whole.

The last song is the ending theme, is played in the final scene, when kid is carrying an injured Zulf through the line of enemies, taking heavily damage from them. To me, that is the best scene in any game so far.

I remember legitimately having trouble seeing where I was going in the last part carrying Zulf through the hail of arrows and falling debris. When the arrows stopped coming and the Ura stopped shooting I almost felt like slumping down on my keyboard in relief. Fuck me I get too emotionally invested in these games

I really wish I could somehow program these songs to always play together on Spotify one after the other with the connective tissue intact. Build that wall was meant to resolve down to the first chord of Mother I'm Here. It doesn't sound complete without it.

I thought that I was on too low health and I would die if I carried him, but I did so anyways and to my surprise they didn't kill me, made all the better by one of them trying to attack me before the others attacked him and restrained him. It felt like a real event, and it's one of my strongest memories of video game storytelling.

This was a great game but if you pay close atention you'll realize the baston it self has failed, and time is just repeating its self. all through the game rucks keeps saying how he feels like he's told this story thousands of times, and at the end he even says that could be the out come of using the bastion. its an amazing sub plot that you have to play through twice to catch.

Even in the new game plus in the bar, Rucks goes on to question if he told this story before, further hinting that this is a cycle that can only be ended by letting everyone go and just save who's left.

@Heartless7747 the justification behind kid fighting was survival.Everything else is (sorry for the harsh word) bullshit.I'm not referring at your post,but more on the idea since this poses a dilemma: does kid feel something when killing?Or do he just justifies it with a "Meh,they'll be reborn"?.So yeah,i opt more for survival than the second one:)

If you choose to escape you leave however many innocent creatures and Ura dead. The justification behind the Kid fighting was that the death wouldn't matter once time is rewound but if he chooses to escape then everything remains the same.

I love the twist that the Old Man and Zulf's dad built a doomsday device that did its job too well. Lots of parallels to the end of WWII in this game.
