They met at school, that's how it goes
Their love story started just like any other school romance.

Some drinks and then a rose
Their first date involved drinks and a gift of a rose.

Then plans to meet again
Their first date was a success and they made plans to see each other again.

He wrote her poems, songs, and prose
He was romantic and wrote her heartfelt love letters, songs, and poetry.

She knew that he'd propose
She could tell he was serious and that he would propose someday.

She only wondered when
She was excited about the prospect of a proposal but didn't know when it would happen.

One night, before they went to bed
At night, before going to sleep, they had a conversation.

He kneeled on both knees
He got down on both knees, a sign of his sincerity.

And this is what he said
He expressed his feelings and made a promise to her.

Some years went by, they had a child
Years passed and they have a child together.

Their child had a unique personality, funny and sometimes quirky.

Their love for him ran deep
They loved and cared for their child more than anything in the world.

Some nights, his dreams would drive him wild
Their child would have trouble sleeping on some nights due to their vivid dreams.

So into bed, she piled
She joined him in bed to soothe and comfort him.

To help him fall asleep
Her presence and comfort would help him relax and fall asleep.

One night, he couldn't get to bed
Their child was having a particularly difficult time falling asleep on one particular night.

So she kneeled on both knees
She mirrored her husband's gesture and got down on both knees to be at eye level with her child.

And this is what she said
She expressed her love and made a promise to their child.

She reassured their child that she may not always have the answers, but she will always be there for them and never leave their side.

You say it's safer on your own
Their child may feel like it's safer to be alone sometimes.

You'd rather sleep alone
Their child may prefer to sleep by themselves some nights.

Than grow to need me there
Their child may be hesitant to grow to rely on their parent.

But I hope now you can see
She hopes that their child can understand the importance of family and love.

What my mom and dad showed me
She's learned the importance of love and staying together from her own parents.

I'm not going anywhere
She reassures their child that she will always be there for them.

I love you more and more each day
Her love for her child grows stronger with each passing day.

To love is not to leave
Love means sticking together, not leaving when things get tough.

So, hear me when I say
She wants their child to really understand what she is saying.
