volcano
Benji Cossa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Have you ever felt such glory?
Maybe in a lost memorial?
I'll never wanna come back from again

And we really wanna be someone
Everybody said we were something
I wish I could feel like nothing's wrong
Could we really be much better?
To whom do you compare?
And where will we go when we get there?

Cos' everyone I know
Is reaching for the peak of the volcano

Be careful of where you're walking
Beware of what you're wanting
Do you believe you can be strong?

Cos' we can burn it all down
Spread that fire around
Cover it up with pounds of ash

Now I saw that lava blooming
Red stems and thorns are shooting
What are we doing standing here?

Everyone I know
Is reaching for the peak of the volcano

Everyone I know, everyone i know, everyone i know
is reaching for the peak of the volcano

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Benji Cossa's Volcano speak to a common struggle of humanity: the desire to strive for greatness while also yearning for a simpler, less complicated life. The feeling of glory that the first line describes is likely a moment of true happiness or accomplishment that feels elusive and unattainable in everyday life. The unease in the lyrics comes from the conflict between wanting to be someone significant and the fear of what that might mean for one's day-to-day life. The fear of losing touch with what really matters is mirrored later in the song with the warning to "be careful of where you're walking" and the questioning of what "we" are doing standing around watching the volcano erupt.

The repeated imagery of the volcano is a metaphor for the goal that many people have of reaching the peak of their own ambitions. The peak of the volcano represents the ultimate level of success, achievement, or satisfaction, and the climb to get there is often steep and treacherous. However, as the lyrics suggest, the desire to reach the peak can also have negative consequences, such as burning everything down and ignoring the people and things that are truly important. Ultimately, the song asks the listener to consider what they are really striving for and what kind of life they want to lead.

My heart was literally melting during the credits as they showed the slideshow. I wasn't crying, but my chest felt like a volcano.

@clovercel

I love Andre and Cal. I don’t love what they did to their school, but I love their friendship. I wish we were able to learn more about their friendship and just see them before they started plotting Zero Day. I cried at the end because the movie made you feel connected to them, then you see them commit that horrific crime, and it just makes you rethink about everything you thought about them

@overpricedhealthcare

yeah the movie itself makes you connect with andre and cal as (supposedly)happy teens slowly throughout the tapes, until the two carry out the one thing they’re planning
