Wicked game
Betoko feat. Gemma Hayes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The world is on fire
Nobody can save me, but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love
(this world is only going to break your heart)
No I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love
(this world is only going to break your heart) with you

What a wicked game to play
to make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do
to let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
you never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do
to make me dream of you

No I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love
(this world is only going to break your heart)
No I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love
(this world is only going to break your heart) with you

The world is on fire no one can save me, but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love
(this world is only going to break your heart)

No I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love
(this world is only going to break your heart) with you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Betoko ft Gemma Hayes's song Wicked Game speak about a tumultuous relationship and the ways in which desire can lead people to do foolish, even wicked, things. The opening lines describe the world as being on fire, conveying the sense of chaos and destruction that surrounds the singer. However, they feel that somehow the other person can provide a sense of salvation or rescue, despite the fact that they are powerless to fix the larger issues. The chorus repeats the assertion that the singer doesn't want to fall in love with the other person, seeing it as a path towards heartbreak and further pain.

The next verse dives deeper into the singer's feelings about the other person, expressing surprise at the strength of the emotions that they've developed despite never imagining such a connection. However, this connection is not stable, as the final lines of the song reveal that the other person has been lost. The concluding chorus repeats the earlier lines, driving home the point that the singer recognizes the dangers of falling in love with someone and being vulnerable to the world's chaos.

At first, I would've find hard to imagine getting a decent, likeable remixed version of this song "The wicked game" but . . . and to my total surprise and disbelief . . . this version came out EXTREMELY beautifully made, so SENSUAL, so SEXY and so SMOOTH that is a pure delight, total & pure enjoyment to my ears listening to this remix many times. Having said this . . . I already lost count of how many times I felt compelled / simply irresistible to go back and listen to it again . . . again . . . again . . . and . . . WONDERFUL !!!

There is something entrancing about this song. It's amazing. You feel like you're escaping to a magical world when you listen to this. Gemma Hayes (I'm assuming that's the vocalist's name) did a good job with voicing this.
