I'm In the Church
Bill & Gloria Gaither Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm in the mood for love
Simply because you're near me.
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love.

Heaven is in your eyes
Bright as the stars we're under
Oh! Is it any wonder
I'm in the mood for love?

Why stop to think of whether
This little dream might fade?
We've put our hearts together
Now we are one, I'm not afraid!

If there's a cloud above
If it should rain we'll let it

But for tonight, forget it!
I'm in the mood for love

Overall Meaning

In the opening lines of the song "I'm in the Church" by Bill & Gloria Gaither, the singer expresses being in a positive state of mind and emotions, signified by being "in the mood for love." This feeling is directly linked to the proximity of someone special, suggesting that the presence of this person has a significant impact on the singer's emotions. The repetition of being in the mood for love highlights the intensity and immediacy of this feeling in response to the closeness of the loved one.

The mention of "Heaven in your eyes" metaphorically describes the loved one having a heavenly and radiant presence that captivates the singer's attention. This imagery of brightness and stars creates a sense of awe and wonder in the singer's perception of the loved one, further enhancing the feeling of being in love. The connection between the heavenly aspect and the mood for love reinforces the transcendental and uplifting nature of romantic feelings.

The lyrics then address the uncertainty that often accompanies love and dreams, questioning whether the current happiness and connection will last. Despite this doubt, the singer expresses a willingness to embrace the present moment and the unity they share with their loved one. The declaration of being unafraid signifies a sense of trust and commitment to the relationship, emphasizing the depth of the emotional bond between the two individuals.

The song concludes with a sense of resilience and determination in the face of potential challenges, symbolized by the mention of a cloud and rain. The singer acknowledges the possibility of hardships but chooses to focus on the immediate joy and love they feel, suggesting a mindset of enjoying and cherishing the present moment without dwelling on potential obstacles. This optimistic outlook and prioritization of love over difficulties encapsulate the overarching message of the song and the power of love to overcome obstacles.

The law is important, but not as someones think, the law does not save

Romans 3:20
since by the works of the law no human being will be justified before Him; because through the law is the knowledge of sin.

Romans 3:28
We conclude, then, that man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

Galatians 3:2
This I only want to know from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing with faith?

Isaiah 64:6
Although all of us are like dirt, and all our righteousnesses like filthy rags; and we all fell like a leaf, and our iniquities carried us away like the wind.

Titus 3:5
he saved us, not by works of justice that we had done, but by his mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

So what is the law for? To make us aware of our sin. And what are the works for? To prove that our Faith is true and because it is the Will of the LORD

James 2:18
But someone will say: You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand for us to do.

So those who believe that works and law have weight in Salvation are guilty of damnation unless they see the Light of the Grace of Christ; as for Shabbat

Romans 14:6
He who heeds the day, he heeds to the LORD; and he who ignores the day, to the LORD he does not. He who eats, for the LORD he eats, because he gives thanks to God; and he who does not eat, for the LORD he does not eat, and he gives thanks to God.

So they have no right to condemn those of us who do not practice that, and as for food

Mark 7:19
because he does not go into his heart, but into his belly, and comes out into the latrine? This he said, making all food clean.

1 Timothy 4
But the Spirit clearly says that in the last times some will apostatize from the faith, listening to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons; 2 for the hypocrisy of liars who, having their consciences seared, 3 will forbid marriage, and will order abstinence from foods that God created so that believers and those who have known the truth may partake of them with thanksgiving.

Jesus already lived a perfect life for us, since he knew we couldn't do it. He will give you grace & strength to do your best for him & for his glory, if you sincerely call out to him to forgive you, cleanse you & give you his spirit- The Holy Spirit.

Romans 3:23 All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I am convinced that this song is needed to bring America back to her senses. I am a 76 year old black American woman and we learned this song in early elementary school. White children learned it in their schools, as well. It is the one thing we had in common, and had we more leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King and President John F. Kennedy, we would have overcome racism in this country. Unfortunately, the Communist Party had the hidden agenda of establishing INTERCOM (international communism), so movements were started non stop to de-Christianize, de-humanize, and de-moralize America. Then Hollywood, television, politicians, civil rights workers, and the media, happened, all working together. They can take a bow for causing America's woes. TRUE REPENTANCE and the return to the WORSHIP OF THE PRINCE OF PEACE, JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, will make America great again.

What a challenge to see the old singing, compared to young youths wasting their voices singing about earthly things. Forget to praise the one who gives his one n only son for us. The creator of all things.
