He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother
Bill Medley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The road is long with a many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where.
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
-
He ain't heavy
He's my brother.

So one we go
His welfare is my concern

No burden is he to bear
We'll get there.
For I know he would not encumber me
-
He ain't heavy
He's my brother.
If I'm laden at all I'm just laden with sadness

That's everyone's heart isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another.

It's a long
Long road from which there is no return

While we're on the way to there
Why not share?
Yes
And the load
The load does not weigh me down
Down at all
-
He ain't heavy
He's my brother.

He ain't heavy
He's my brother

He ain't heavy

He ain't heavy
He's my brother

It is NOT "blasphemy". It is the fact! It is the truth! Nobody, I mean "NO-body", can sing this song as perfect and flawless as Bill Medley (period)

Everyone else, singing this song, sings so dry and emotionless and puts me to sleep because they are not a true performer to have creativity and originality to have their own different interpretation. Every single singer becomes a "copycat" of the very first horrible version and sings with the same monotone, fainting, drowsy, boring tone like they are "whining", not singing...!!! Thanks to Giorgio Moroder, the music was re-composed with his rock-style interpretation, and Bill Medley is the only singer to perform flawlessly to deliver such excellence to keep up with Giorgio Moroder’s musical perfection. It is the divine masterpiece of "Giorgio Moroder", the legendary musician to bring such intensity toward the end with heavy droning guitars, heavily pounding drums, and the chorus as Bill Medley "roars", singing with such intense emotion, and such heart.

As Bill Medley sings the song, you truly "feel" he sings like he means it. And that is the true connection between him and the song, and between him and the audience. That is the true perfection and excellence! That is what being a true performer is all about. And also, it is like an intense showdown between Giorgio Moroder and Bill Medley. Both the musician, and the singer are perfect!

Also, Bill Medley doesn’t stick to the actual lyrics of the original song (that we all know of) toward the very end.

At 4:08, he sings, "Oh I know, the road gets long."
At 4:14, he sings, "I may be a little bit weary. I know I can carry him. He’s my brother…!!! He ain’t heavy, he ain’t heavy…!!!"

This is one of the best cover songs ever, I know this might sound blasphemous to many fans of the Hollies but I prefer Bill Medley's version better, it just sounds more emotional.
