You've Changed
Billie Holiday(빌리 홀리데이) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That sparkle in your eyes is gone
Your smile is just a careless yawn
You're breaking my heart
You've changed
You've changed
Your kisses now are so blase
I can't understand
You've changed
You've forgotten the words, I love you
Each memory that we've shared
You ignore every star above you
I can't realize you've ever cared
You've changed
You're not the angel I once knew
No need to tell me that we're through
It's all over now
You've changed
You've forgotten the words, I love you
Each memory that we've shared
You ignore every star above you
I can't realize you've ever cared
You've changed
You're not the angel I once knew
No need to tell me that we're through
It's all over now
You've changed
You've changed
The lyrics to Billie Holiday's "You've Changed" express a sense of heartbreak and betrayal towards a former lover. The singer addresses the changes they have noticed in their partner, from the loss of the spark in their eyes to the lackluster quality of their kisses. The partner seems uninterested and bored with the relationship, leading the singer to question if their previous expressions of love were genuine. They feel abandoned and hurt, realizing that the person they once knew and loved is no longer there.
Holiday's emotive delivery of the lyrics adds to the sense of heartbreak conveyed in the song. The way she stretches certain words and phrases creates a sense of longing and sadness. The repetition of the phrase "you've changed" emphasizes the main theme of the song, that the singer's partner has transformed into someone they no longer recognize.
The lyrics to "You've Changed" are not only poignant but also relatable, as many people have experienced a similar sense of loss and betrayal in a relationship. The song shows Holiday's ability to convey feelings of heartbreak and sadness through her music, making it a timeless classic.

To my spirit of life:
You've change
The childhood feeling in my heart is gone.
My sweet little voice is just a long forgotten memory.
You are breaking my heart
My childhood is literally over 😢😢😢.
My sweet little hands have grown bigger.
The school days of fun are over.
You've changed
The happiness of my toys is gone
My babyhood house is just an unknown persons house
I feel so low like everything's over.
The childhood is over
You've changed 😢😢.
God please help me overcome my childhood blues.

Billie Hollidays voice touches me in my heart, you can just hear and feel the many ordeals, the drama, tragedy and the tremendous suffering she has been through. Her later recordings just break my heart because somehow you know her end is coming near. What moves me the most is that she kept on fighting because she never lost hope to find love and happiness, but in vain, when she died in 1959 at the age of 44. 😔😢 I love you Billie, no one can ever replace you. Rest in peace. 💐

Every time I play this song and dim the lights, it's like instant theater with all the elements of drama, pathos, tragedy added in. Nobody sings drama better than Billie. While I still prefer her early recordings from the 1930's, her 1958 classic "Lady In Satin" (which has this song) is a Must for any Billie fan.

My belief is that her version of this song is her absolute best, and the emotion is so REAL that you must feel it if you have ever been in Love

At this stage Billie's voice was well past its best ... BUT,,,, she still had so much beautiful emotion to vocalise ...and a song that will always bring a tear to my eye....... THEN I go back and listen to her 1935 version of "What a little moonlight will do" with Teddy Wilson and Benny Goodman and hear her at her AMAZING best !! and love her to pieces for it all.

Billie Holiday sings it with the pain of longing. So sweet. 🎶

You hear the fragility in her voice and then you hear her sing “I love you” and the words “ she sang and singing would never be the same” ring so true.
