I'll Never Smile Again
Billie Holiday & Ray Ellis & His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll never smile again
Until I smile at you
I'll never laugh again
What good would it do
For tears would fill my eyes
My heart would realize
That our romance is true
I'll never love again
I'm so in love with you
I'll never thrill again
To somebody new
Within my heart
I know I will never start
To smile again
Until I smile at you

Within my heart
I know I will never start

To smile again
Until I smile at you

Nunca volveré a sonreír
(Música y letra de Ruth Lowe)

Nunca voy a sonreír de nuevo
Hasta que te sonría.
Nunca voy a reír de nuevo
¿De qué serviría hacerlo?

Por las lágrimas que llenan mis ojos
Mi corazón se daría cuenta de
Que nuestro romance es verdadero.
Nunca volveré a amar,
Estoy tan enamorado de ti
Que nunca me emocionaré otra vez
Con alguien nuevo.

Dentro de mi corazón
Sé que nunca voy a empezar
Para sonreír de nuevo
Hasta que te sonría.

Dentro de mi corazón
Sé que nunca comenzaré
A sonreír de nuevo
Hasta que te sonría.

INCREDIBLE !! Billie blows all other versions outta the water !
Had she not succumbed to her own failing health, Billie shows what she could do with this being one of the newer tunes coming out at the time.
Previously I thought Sinatra owned this tune, but his doesn't come close to Billie's.
Her voice actually sounds stronger than it has in years and her timing is perfect !
Listen to how she ends the song on a high note and the voice is strong and sharp.
How sad she was gone two short months after she recorded this song.

@PrinceMontrey

Her voice is so amazing. Jazz at it's best her and Amy Winehouse of course.

@rebel2rebel

You know what folks...she knocks this out of the park. Yes her voice was torn, BUT, the emotion was always there. I love this, and FUCK sounding like Sinatra, she was her own goddess.***

@Elizabethitsthebig1

I just read your comment, it's a documented fact that Sinatra sang like her not her like him. She rose out of the doldrums conveyed previously in Satin Lady!

@shihlin1

Previously I thought Sinatra owned this version, but after listening to Billie's, sorry, Frankie takes a back seat here.
Her voice is Amazing and how she wrings every emotion from this song.

Billie Holiday takes you immediately with her you feel everything that she sings it’s not a dark sadness to her voice it’s a beautiful sadness that we can all relate to sit back and enjoy the journey with her.
