This video is such a gem. I thought I had seen practically all of her video footage. She was such a beautiful looking woman! Miss Holiday revolutionized "pop singing" for vocalists, the way that she syncopated the melodies of songs like jazz musicians play their instruments. It is no wonder why Frank Sinatra said through out his career Billie Holiday was his number one influence as a singer. There are two elements that separates a great singer from a good singer. An good sense of rhythm and a good sense of pitch and she had them both. If you really listen to two musicians play the same thing you can differentiate between the two. It is sort like a fingerprint, we have our own unigue senses of rhythm and pitch, especially in the jazz idiom. I have been involved in music since early childhood as an instrumentalist.
Every singer that has the benefit of coming after "Lady Day " owes her a debt of gratitude. She changed the way pop singers approach and sing a song.

This is a wonderful find. It suddenly demonstrated to me that, in general, I don't like high pitched singers - but Billie totally mesmerizes me in whichever tone she uses. I grew up in the San Francisco bay area - as did my mother. At one point she was an usherette at the Fox Theatre (I may be wrong) in SF where Holiday performed a number of shows. She was working there at the time and during one of our conversations she said she did'nt really like Billie Holiday!!! I was devastated - however to each their own.
