FEVER
Black Keys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fever where'd you run to
Acting out of certainty
A fever let me live a dream
Fever, how much slept on
No one misbehave too
Fever let me sun screw
Wouldn't leave you if I could
Fever 'cause I’m breaking
Fever got me aching
Fever how will you explain
Break it down again
Fever got me guilty
Just go ahead and kill me
Fever how will you explain
Break it down again
Fever can you hear me
Fever can you hear me
You shook me like I never been
Now show me how to love again
It used to be a blessing
But fever got me stressing
Realizing I am the played
But fever let me play the game
Fever
Fever 'cause I’m breaking
Fever got me aching
Fever why won't you explain
Break it down again
Fever got me guilty
Just go ahead and kill me
Fever why won't you explain
Break it down again
Now if the cold, pale, light in your eyes
Reaches those horizon lines
You know not to leave her
Now if the cold, pale, light in your eyes
Reaches those horizon lines
You know not to leave her
Fever
The lyrics to the Black Keys' song Fever delve into the theme of obsession, as the singer appears to be completely consumed by the titular fever. This is evident from the repeated lines "Fever where'd you run to" and "Fever let me live a dream," where the singer appears to be begging for the fever to consume them completely. Moreover, the lyrics seem to point towards the idea that the fever is both a blessing and a curse, as evident from lines "it used to be a blessing, but fever got me stressing." The singer seems to be grappling with the addiction-like nature of the fever, as they cannot leave it even if they wanted to. The lyrics also point towards a romantic aspect, as evident from the line "now show me how to love again" and "fever let me sun screw."
However, as the song progresses, there is a noticeable shift in the singer's tone. The repetition of the line "fever why won't you explain, break it down again" points towards the singer becoming increasingly frustrated and agitated with the fever. The line "realizing I am the played" points towards the idea that the singer is starting to understand that the fever is in control of them, rather than the other way around. The lyrics do not provide a clear resolution to this internal conflict, as the final lines simply repeat the title of the song, leaving the listener to interpret the singer's final fate.

+Mona Ransom - True, but I think that the fact that they obviously HATE making Music Vids really holds them back. One look at this thing and half the people out there won't want anything more to do with them.... and this is one of their better ones!
So sad.
But if this is the way they want it, that's on them. Maybe they would rather NOT be so mainstream that they never get to kick back in public?
@7ramonagrl
Sushi Time This is a good video, so is the video for Tighten Up. I think they don't want to be wrapped up in mainstream music because it may compromise their good, genuine sound. Just look what happened to Coldplay, they don't want that to happen to them lol

Mona Ransom - Good point, I'll have to check that one out.
