No Second Chance
Blackmore's Night Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My diamond's clouded over where it used to shine like light,
And the day keeps running faster,
Into the arms of night...
The stitches on the tapestry say,

"Everything in time,
Will find it's way home again,"
But I'm tired of crying...

No Second Chances
Don't knock on my door
There won't be any answer
I won't be here no more...

This house we had together
Might still be in its place
But the rest of this is much too hard to face,
There'll be No Second Chance...

Lovely moonlit hours we spent
Walking on the beach,
We'd gaze up at the stars,
I swear they were in our reach...

But time... it went on,
Minutes... they ran too fast.

Like you they were gone...
Into the past....

Overall Meaning

The Blackmore's Night song "No Second Chance" is a melancholic ballad that tells a story of loss and regret. From the opening lines, the singer's diamond, once bright and shining, has become clouded and dim. They lament the fleeting nature of time and how it seems to rush by, leaving them with nothing but memories. The tapestry, which serves as a metaphor for the fabric of life, suggests that everything eventually finds its way home, but the singer is tired of waiting and crying. They have given up hope of second chances, signified by the refrain "Don't knock on my door, there won't be any answer, I won't be here no more."

The second verse continues the theme of lost opportunities and missed chances. The memories of walks on the beach in moonlit hours, gazing up at the stars, are bittersweet. Time, like the minutes racing past and the lover who vanished, is gone into the past. The singer has come to terms with the fact that there will be no second chance to relive those moments together, and they won't be waiting for them to return.

Overall, the song is a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of seizing opportunities when they present themselves. Its melancholy tone and powerful imagery make it a moving tribute to lost love and missed chances.

I met Ritchie in 1974. Deep purple were playing in Charlotte, N.C. (BURN tour) my dad was head of security for the Charlotte coliseum so I got to see alot of shows for free and walk around backstage with him. Ritchie and David Coverdale were waiting to go on and I told Ritchie he was one of my favorite guitarist. He didn't reply just looked at me and winked . I took that as a positive response. And Candice you are one of the most beautiful women in the world in my opinion. I love the Renaissance style music you guys play. There are 4 or 5 songs of yours that are annual christmas classics in our house

You are correct on both points, Ritchie Blackmore one of the greatest guitarists of all time (and in any genre!), and Candice is a very, beautiful woman!
