Face to Face
Blah Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There may be trouble ahead
But while there's moonlight
And music and love and romance
Let's face the music and dance

Before the fiddlers have fled
Before they ask us to pay the bill
And while we still have the chance
Let's face the music and dance

Soon, we'll be without the moon
Humming a different tune and then

There may be tear drops to shed
So while there's moonlight
And music and love and romance
Let's face the music and dance
Let's face the music and dance

Soon, we'll be without the moon
Humming a different tune and then

There may be tear drops to shed
So while there's moonlight
And music and love and romance

Let's face the music and dance
Let's face the music and dance

Overall Meaning

The first line of the lyrics to "Face to Face" indicate that there may be some difficulties coming down the road. However, despite whatever might happen, the singer insists that they should enjoy the current moment while it lasts. The music, moonlight, love, and romance all come together, creating an atmosphere of a perfect moment that the singer wants to cherish. The chorus repeats twice within the song, urging the listener to "face the music and dance." The phrase itself means to confront unpleasant realities or hardships boldly, instead of avoiding them.

The second verse reflects on how our lives can change without warning, warning that we need to appreciate the good times because they may not last forever. The moon may fade and the atmosphere may become dark, leaving us with only memories of the good times. The singer acknowledges that there may be tears to shed as a result of those changes. As such, they want to seize the moment and face the music and dance.

The lyrics of the song give the impression of someone who wants to enjoy a good moment but is also aware that it won't last forever. Instead of worrying about the future, the singer wants to focus on the present while it lasts. When life gets tough or uncomfortable, it makes sense to approach it with a positive attitude, and "face the music and dance" serves as a reminder to do just that.

What a great band. You know I was driving yesterday thinking when I first saw these guys 30 years ago I NEVER could imagine I would be a 46 year old father of three still stoked on a new Face to Face record. Fukin aye. Life’s a trip ain’t it. You fukers owe us a show in Bakersfield by the way.

I completely relate. I can remember being 16 listening to big choice when it first came out in my shitty 1978 Chevy nova like it was yesterday. Time flies for sure. But at the same time I feel like I've lived 3 lives since then. So many good times. And bad times. Broken and healed. But deep inside there will always be a kid with a blue mohawk and a skateboard singing those old songs at the top of his lungs.
