Bloem's voice and musical style have been compared to Björk. Her music is mostly melodic although a couple of the songs on her album are quiet, just Bloem and her acoustic guitar. The album was produced by Pete Briquette, of Tricky fame. After her debut Bloem de Ligny virtually disappeared from the music scene, only to return in 2006 as Fono & Serafina, a duo with Ties van der Linden, releasing the dreamy trip hop album 'bathtub'.
Bloem is currently a member of Sam and the Womp, a British-Dutch group fronted by trumpeter Sam Ritchie. The group’s debut single "Bom Bom" was released as a digital download on 19 August 2012 and went to the No. 1 spot in the UK Singles Chart and has sold over a million copies worldwide.
Cherubine
Bloem De Ligny Lyrics

Is scratching a moonbeam
Screaming a sunbeam
Flirting around
Ruby, ruby
You are my mother
You are my daughter
How delicious you are
Kissing the sun and the sun goes down
Making each day
Ruby, ruby
Skating provoking
Fornikating iceskating
Come floating(?) down now
I am your father
I am a mother
You are my little prize(?) in curls
How delicious you are
Smiled at the frog(?) and the sun goes down
Making each day
You go out and I can smell those sounds
Cloud inside
And are you whispering something happens again
Making each day
Ruby, ruby
Want to be you
I want to feel your breath
Make me a mother
Make me a father
Make me a fucking prize(?) in curls
How delicious you are
Smiled at the frog(?) and the sun goes down
And making each day
Bright
Ruby, ruby
Your rays are delicious
I am to owe you
The sun doesn't know
The song "Cherubine" by Bloem De Ligny is a surrealistic, dream-like representation of the relationship between a parent and a child, with the lyrics carrying several layers of meaning. The repeated chorus of "Ruby, ruby...you are my mother, you are my daughter, the sun doesn't know" highlights the ambiguous nature of the relationship - the roles of the parent and the child are blurred into one entity, represented by the name "Ruby". The imagery of "scratching a moonbeam" and "screaming a sunbeam" adds to the overall otherworldly atmosphere of the song.
The lyrics in the second verse carry a sexual undertone, with the mention of "fornicating iceskating" and being "a little prize in curls", indicating a possible interpretation of incestuous desires. However, the lyrics can also be interpreted symbolically, with the ice skating representing a reckless and provocative attitude towards life that both the parent and the child share. The chorus takes on a different meaning in this verse, with the parent and the child being equal in their perceived "deliciousness".
The final verse takes the dream-like quality of the song to a new level, with the singer expressing a desire to become Ruby - to be both the parent and the child, and to experience the world through their eyes. The mention of wanting to be a "fucking prize in curls" again adds an uncomfortable, sexual layer to the song's meaning.
