VAMPIRE
Bluetones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You left me unguided
You left me divided with room to complain
So I'll say in this song, the wait is too long
I thought I had seen it, I thought I had learned
There's something around each corner I turn
Can't stay still forever, got to get it together
If you'd seen with these eyes and lived with these lies
I thought about father and I thought about here
And I knew that this wasn't for me
Now the beast can subside, a boy needn't hide
Oh, if you'd seen with these eyes

Never dares to sow, on and on she goes
Knowing what she knows â?? nothing

Major's whipping boy, facing one old toy
Distance through the void â?? nothing

Overall Meaning

The Bluetones' song "Vampire" is a haunting, yet catchy tune that explores the feeling of being lost and alone. The song's lyrics suggest that the singer has been abandoned by someone they trusted, leaving them feeling directionless and frustrated. The use of the word "vampire" in the title suggests a parasitic relationship where one person is draining the other of their energy.

The opening lines, "You left me unguided, you left me divided with room to complain", sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer feels lost and betrayed by the person who was supposed to guide them. Despite their frustration, however, the singer acknowledges that they must take responsibility for their own life, singing, "Can't stay still forever, got to get it together". There is a sense of determination in the lyrics as the singer pushes themselves to move forward and find their way.

As the song progresses, the lyrics become more introspective. The singer thinks about their father and the place they come from, realizing that it is not where they are meant to be. The final lines suggest a sense of closure, with the singer declaring that "the beast can subside" and they no longer need to hide. The song leaves an impression of a journey completed, with a weary traveler finally finding their way home.

Goddamn so underrated......The Bluetones certainty knew how to write great songs

The Man From Volantis

This whole album is phenomenal. I bored lots of people to death in 1996 saying that this was how I hoped the Stone Roses second album would sound like.

Honestly, this album is so good it brings tears to my eyes.

It might be because I had my heart broken around the time this came out but Reverence, Raise The Pressure, 1977 and The It Girl also came out around the same time. All excellent albums but Expecting To Fly soars above them all.
