1.) BoatH… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least three artists with the name "Boathouse"
1.) BoatHouse is a Chicago-based producer and member of the Closed Sessions collective. You may be more familiar with his work than you realize, as he’s the one who engineered the Chance The Rapper and Lil B Based Freestyle mixtape from 2015. Beyond producing on tracks, Boathouse also released an instrumental EP, Girl, at the tail end of 2015.
To follow Girl and premiered via This Song is Sick earlier today, we now have a new EP from Boathouse that features the likes of Allan Kingdom, Drea Smith of Pyyramids, and others. On Hibernation, Boathouse creates an atmospheric soundscape across the span of four songs and demonstrates that he knows which artists have the ability to complement that soundscape.
2.) Boathouse began with childhood friends Gerry McCrudden and Kieran Hughes. Soon they gathered their eclectic recruits: Micky McAuley (Bass), Keir Hurley (Drums), and lastly Amy McGarrigle (Vox/guitar).
Gerry and Kieran’s musical disguises were numerous from school, but it wasn't until 2006 that they settled on Boathouse. After releasing an initial demo and a few line-up changes, Boathouse began playing a host of dates around Northern Ireland.
The name began to spread, and their reputation went before them as a band. As BBC’s Stuart Bailie said in an interview, [Boathouse] are all about the intensity live with “eyeballs bulging and perspiration on the forehead”. Gerry nicely replied, “like a minor beating around the head”.
With such a reputation live, Boathouse went into the studio with the intent of reproducing that intensity for the record. The “What I Remember’ EP was the result and didn't disappoint. They had airplay on BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio 1 N and supported the likes of the Guillemots, Bowerbirds, Eugene McGuincess and Shearwater.
They were said to have elements of Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, The Hold Steady, Roy Orbison and Interpol. They broke up in May 2009
3.) The band "Boathouse" responsible for the album "Apollo" (http://www.last.fm/music/Boathouse/Apollo) is an ambient/electronic/groove act. The album is released on Beachcomber Records.

i feel it coming

hope he hit a lick this morning
n***a
play a victim or a statistic they say
just tryna live for the moment like I'm free or A.J.
it don't do me no good
I pick a part the fabric plastered in the cracks of yo hood
I run the thin line and in time you hope for a genie
I'm guarding what's in the garden of knowledge
Mr. Feenie and see remedial raps
believe me I'm getting sicker
it's ill will on my heart
it's real deals in the picture
watch the city have my back like they owe me one
had the pieces separate had to get'em all exodia
bout step to the podium
posing threats to your suite life
Zach and Cody
do the details Kobe decoding over
the city folding hoping
this hero is golden
chosen the legacy open
gimme the credit you owe me bitch
n***as on the blocks and the locks
keep holding
illest in the plot
and the opps reloading
whips on the lots
with the drops and the blowfish
mix up the pot what you got in the holster
n****s on the blocks and the locks
keep holding
illest in the plot
and the opps reloading
whips on the lots
with the drops and the blowfish
foes in the sights in the night we approaching
figaro fickle minds on the fucking floor
mines on the f**king flow
in time I'm about to blow
Nas was my teacher
the cause is my speaker
my moms is high reason
I'm peaking with age
basic machines in rage
on the darkest path we know
green so gnarly my mob goodie am I Cee-Lo
verbatim you still be talking like i am not in the place
when you see me don't even speak
I got no time to be fake
this my odyssey tae
homer was writing my story
I bring the money to my hood and flip the block that's on shorty
spin the corner I'm speeding
better yet i been pacing
reggie miller from jump
destined for one of the greatest
all without a vacation
the ceilings higher this year
top five in the city and it's a lot of em here
for that to happen it's some of you having plenty to fear
this is a toast for my niggas to my enemies cheers

In the song "APEX" by Boathouse, the lyrics depict a raw and introspective expression of the artist's mindset and experiences. The song delves into themes of survival, street life, self-worth, and the pursuit of success.
The first verse begins with an invocation to a higher power, asking for guidance and assistance. The artist expresses a sense of foreboding, anticipating an impending event or confrontation. The use of the term "n***a" is a racially charged expression often used within rap music to address friends or acquaintances. The mention of a person with a pistol on their side suggests a dangerous and volatile environment. There is a hope that this person succeeds in their criminal activity, as it symbolizes a means to escape poverty and hardship.
The artist further explains the challenges and dangers inherent in their circumstances. They are faced with the choice of either being a victim or becoming a statistic. They strive to live in the present moment, as if they were free like someone named A.J. This highlights a desire to break free from societal constraints and live life on their own terms. The artist also criticizes other rappers, emphasizing that he doesn't rush to insult them because it serves no purpose. Instead, he dissects their artistry, examining the flaws and weaknesses within their music.
The second verse continues to explore the artist's experiences in their neighborhood. They reflect on the support from their community, suggesting that the city has their back as if it owes them a debt. The artist metaphorically compares themselves to a character from the card game Yu-Gi-Oh!, mentioning "exodia" to represent gathering all the necessary pieces and reaching their full potential. They express a desire to step onto the podium, posing a threat to those who have lived a comfortable life. The reference to "Zach and Cody" from the TV show "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" implies that the artist understands the detailed nuances and secrets of their surroundings. They feel like a hero, someone chosen to leave a lasting legacy.
In the chorus, the lyrics suggest a continuation of the intense atmosphere. The presence of "n***as on the blocks" implies the constant hustle and struggle in their neighborhood. There is a sense of danger, with the idea of "locks" being held and "opp(s)" reloading. The mention of "whips on the lots" refers to cars parked in the parking lots, possibly indicating a lavish display of wealth and success. The inclusion of "blowfish" and "mixing up the pot" in the lyrics symbolizes the artist's involvement in drug activities.
The final verse draws on references to other influential artists, such as Nas, as a source of inspiration and guidance. The artist recognizes their own unique story and journey, comparing it to Homer's "Odyssey" and asserting their place in the rap game. They bring money back to their community, improving the quality of life and creating opportunities for others. The mention of Reggie Miller, a former basketball player, implies the artist's determination and skill in their chosen field. The lyrics convey a sense of confidence and ambition, with the artist aiming to be among the top five artists in their city. The final line is a toast to their supporters and an acknowledgment that even their enemies should recognize their achievements.
Overall, "APEX" by Boathouse is a deeply introspective song that explores the struggles, ambitions, and determination of the artist to succeed in a challenging environment. The lyrics provide a glimpse into the artist's mindset and offer social commentary on life in the streets and the pursuit of success.
