So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world

Bless my eyes this morning
Jah sun is on the rise once again
The way earthly things are going
Anything can happen
You see men sailing on their ego trips
Blast off on their spaceships
Million miles from reality
No care for you, no care for me

So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
All you've got to do is give a little (give a little)
Give a little (give a little)
Give a little (give a little)
One more time yeah! (give a little)
Yeah! (give a little) yeah! (give a little) yeah!

So you think you've found the solution
But it's just another illusion
So before you check out this tide
Don't leave another cornerstone standing there behind
We've got to face the day
Ooh we come what may
We the street people talking
Yeah, we the people struggling

Now they are sitting on a time bomb (bomb, bomb, bomb! bomb, bomb, bomb!)
Now I know the time has come (bomb, bomb, bomb! bomb, bomb, bomb!)
What goes on up is coming on down (bomb, bomb, bomb! bomb, bomb, bomb!)
Goes around and comes around (bomb, bomb, bomb! bomb, bomb, bomb!)

So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
There is so much trouble (so much trouble in the world)
There is so much trouble
There is so much trouble (so much in the world)
There is so much trouble

There is so much trouble in the world
There is (so much in the world)

Overall Meaning

Bob Marley's "So Much Trouble In The World" is a song about the global chaos and human disconnectedness experienced in his time, which still resonates to this day. The opening lyrics, "Bless my eyes this morning/Jah sun is on the rise once again," expresses the hope of a new day full of possibilities with the sun representing rebirth or new beginnings. However, Marley laments that despite the dawn, there is "so much trouble in the world," as he observes people's excessive selfishness and technological advancement that only leads to further distress.

Marley criticizes our society's ego-driven politics and technological obsession when he says, "You see men sailing on their ego trips/ Blast off on their spaceships/ Million miles from reality/No care for you, no care for me." It paints a picture of people who seem to lack awareness of the impacts their actions have on the world and the people living in it. Marley challenges people to act with empathy and compassion, emphasizing that solutions can be found through helping each other.

Through its powerful message, Marley's song encourages listeners to face the day with resilience, grace, and compassion despite the insatiable greed, violence, and despair in the world.

My goodness, what a great song this is! I still have the original Survival album on vinyl in my collection, being a Marley follower since 1976 when I heard Stir it up for the first time. This is a fantastic example of one of the things I love about reggae, the strong one drop beat. Nice and heavy. The bass is great to. So strong and powerful rythm. The whole sound of this song is perfect. Beautiful backing vocals. The I Threes at their very best! I'll never forget seeing the Legend live in 1980 in Rotterdam Ahoy during his last tour, the Uprising tour. Now he is not more with us; he died a year later. So the more precious have become the memories of that night, being so close to the man who inspired me and actually had a big influence on my life. He was a prophet and a visionary. May he rest in peace...
