Like A Rock
Bob Seger Lyrics

Sweatin' in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I'd never that strong
Like a rock
Didn't have a care
Working for peanuts
Not a dime to spare
But I was lean and
Solid everywhere
Like a rock
My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock
Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock
And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams
Twenty years now
Where'd they go?
Twenty years
I don't know
I sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone
And sometimes late at night
When I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall
I recall
Like a rock, standin' arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin' from the gate
Like a rock, carryin' the weight
Like a rock
Like a rock, the sun upon my skin
Like a rock, hard against the wind
Like a rock, I see myself again
Like a rock
The song "Like a Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band is an anthem about the strength and resiliency of youth, as well as the lasting impact of that strength as we age. The lyrics depict a young man in the prime of his life, feeling invincible and confident in his abilities. He is unencumbered by the weight of the world and has a clear sense of purpose, holding onto his values and beliefs with conviction. The repeated phrase, "like a rock," reinforces the idea of the singer's steadfastness and durability.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on how time has passed and how he has changed. Even though he has aged, he still recalls the feeling of being "like a rock" in his youth. The chorus repeats, but the tone is more wistful, as the singer wonders where his youth has gone and tries to recapture some of that powerful energy.
Overall, "Like a Rock" is a nostalgic, inspirational song about the enduring strength and courage of the human spirit. It speaks to the idea that even as we age and face obstacles, we can still hold onto the unbreakable parts of ourselves and continue to stand tall.

I can't put it better. He blows Springsteen away.
Maybe it's because of my Midwestern upbringing. I grew up in Ohio and listened to the Michael Stanley Band, Seger and so many others.
Seger is a master songwriter. He tells a story like few others in any kind of music.

I'm 72 and still listening to Bob Seger. I have always enjoyed his music and always will. There are no comparable artists these days, unfortunately.
