Once he started a solo career, Brown enjoyed commercial and critical success with his second album Don't Be Cruel (1988) which spawned five Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles, including the number one hit "My Prerogative", and the Grammy Award-winning "Every Little Step". In 1989, Brown contributed two songs to the soundtrack of Ghostbusters II. In 1992, Brown married superstar singer Whitney Houston, with whom he later had a daughter named Bobbi Kristina Brown. The couple's drug issues and domestic disputes made them tabloid fodder.
Brown's next album Bobby (1992) spawned several singles including "Humpin' Around", "Get Away", and "Good Enough", however, sales of Bobby did not reach the level of its predecessor.
Brown also appeared in the films A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and Two Can Play That Game. He returned to New Edition for a reunion album and tour from 1996 to 1997, and returned with all six members for another stint in 2005. Brown and Houston starred in the 2005 reality show Being Bobby Brown; Houston filed for divorce two years later in 2007.

You know, your own families, you know
But I brought a few friends
And you know, to let you guys know
When you step into my house
Would you please come with respect?
If not then I'll have to have my man DOA
Drop it, yeah
Come on y'all
What'cha wanna do? Huh
Yeah, listen
Everybody wants to know what's goin' on in my life
But it's none of your business, every thing's alright
It's not the kind of car I drive or clothes I wear, it's me
And I don't give a damn about it if you think I'm crazy
It really doesn't matter what the folks may say
(It really)
I just gotta live my life my way
And like I told you eight years ago
It's still my prerogative, don't you know
It's still my thang and if you don't
Like the way that Bobby Brown swings
Stop calling out my name
'Cause it's still my thang
It's still my thang and after eight years
Ain't a damn thing changed
Why should I be ashamed?
It's still my thang
Listen, I can never be counted out
'Cause I started it all out
And you don't wanna test me
'Cause you know what I'm about
I'm still the king of the stage
Put the crowd in a rampage
And it's all right, it's all right
I've been 'round the world and then back again
Puttin' all my hope and trust, in my so-called friends
Uh huh, but they always seemed to let me down
But I'm still around
It's still my thang and if you don't
Like the way that Bobby Brown swings
Stop calling out my name
It's still my thang
It's still my thang and after eight years
Ain't a damn thing changed
Why should I be ashamed?
It's still my thang
You never know what I'm gonna do
If you think that I'm gonna slip, you're a fool
Hey yo, could you drop it for me please?
Bring the drama, flip it back to the Brown bomber
Holla, holla, now who wanna test me?
Bittin' a style, can't none of y'all fade be
'Cause he's the baddest trend setter ever, yeah
I got your back, the phonies gon' talk forever
Keep it true boo, I know what you've been through
By-pass the fake 'cause you know they ain't a friend to you
Taking no losses, remind them who the boss is
Alright baby
Hello, hello, hello again
Guess what? It's the Biggitty Brown in the back
With a brand new funky track
What's up, kid?
You want some NyQuil?
Or you're just mad
'Cause your whole crew and you can't write yo?
You never know what I'm gonna do
You'll never know
If you think that I'm gonna slip, you're a fool
It's still my thang and if you don't
Like the way that Bobby Brown swings
Stop calling out my name
It's still my thang
It's still my thang and after eight years
Ain't a damn thing changed
Why should I be ashamed?
It's still my thang
It's still my thang and if you don't
Like the way that Bobby Brown swings
Stop calling out my name
It's still my thang
Listen y'all
Hey y'all, I ain't [unverified] nowhere, ain't goin' nowhere
I'm-a be here always, every day, all day
In your face with the bombshell [unverified]
Peace, be-Brown is definitely outta here for the minute
See ya, 'cause
It's still my thang and after eight years
Ain't a damn thing changed
Why should I be ashamed?
It's still my thang
It's still my thang and if you don't
Like the way that Bobby Brown swings
Stop calling out my name
It's still my thang
Bobby Brown's song "It's My Life" is a response to the controversy and criticism that surrounded him in the early '90s. Brown had made headlines for various reasons, including his tumultuous relationship with Whitney Houston and his erratic behavior. In this song, Brown defiantly declares that he will live life on his own terms and refuse to conform to others' expectations.
The opening lines of the song set the tone, as Brown warns the listener to show him respect when they enter his house. The lyrics then go on to address the common public curiosity about Brown's personal life, stating that it is none of their business. Brown emphasizes that his identity is not defined by material possessions, but by his own character. He asserts that he doesn't care if people think he is crazy, and that he will live his life his way no matter what others say.
Brown also alludes to the fact that despite facing criticism and being let down by so-called friends, he is still standing and proud of who he is. The song features a confident and assertive attitude displayed by the performer as he reminds those who've tried to bring him down that he's still the "King of the stage," and he know what he is capable of.
Overall, "It's My Life" is a powerful anthem of individuality, resilience, and self-confidence in the face of adversity.

Everybody's talkin' all this stuff about me (Now now)
Why don't they just let me live (Oh oh oh)
I don't need permission
Make my own decisions (Oh)
That's my prerogative
They say I'm crazy
I really don't care
That's my prerogative
They say I'm nasty
But I don't give a damn
Gettin' girls is how I live
Some ask me questions
Why am I so real
But they don't understand me
I really don't know the deal
About a brother
Trying hard to make it right
Not long ago
Before I win this fight
Sing!

@Stephen Dise correct but this is art and were detaching the artist from the tracks they've produced. Michael Jackson is still the best recording artist and performer this world has ever seen, despite what he did.

I pretty much interpret it as the Media obsessing over figures and making the public get too much into their personal life. Which is why I think Britney covered this song.

This song is what helped me dress myself and walk after I was deemed wheelchair bound..I was determined to walk again..after days of rest.. and my brain being rewired to my body..my tech played this song for me on her phone and I just worked really hard and got myself dressed and walked..I fell and then had to have a walker..but stayed w me for 2 hrs and then I just threw the Walker to the side..the tech played this song again and I walked..so thank you God and also to Bobby Brown and to his music..pulled me through..but most of all God did..
