She's Just A Groupie
Bobby Nunn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Shes very pretty
& She sits behind her desk
From 9 to 5
Uhuh
But when the night comes
She lets her hair down
And she really comes alive
Oh yea
We go to concerts
And she screams and shouts
And jumps right out her seat
She says that michael
Is the only one who makes her body weak
(All my friends keep saying)
She is just a groupie
(Dont you get i love her soul)
She is just a groupie
(And i just cant let her go)
She is just a groupie

(She is such a lovely soul)
She is just a groupie

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bobby Nunn's song She's Just a Groupie depict a woman who leads a double life. During the day, she works at her desk, but at night, she is a passionate fan of music. She lets her hair down and comes alive when the night comes. She attends concerts, screams, and jumps out of her seat when she hears her favorite artist, Michael. Despite her love for music, she is judged by others and labeled as a groupie. Even though Bobby Nunn's friends keep telling him that she is just a groupie, he cannot let her go as he loves her soul.

The lyrics of the song highlight the negative connotations associated with the term 'groupie.' Historically, the term 'groupie' was used to describe women who followed bands and musicians for the sake of sexual encounters. Over time, the term has evolved, and women who are passionate about music can still be labeled as groupies. The lyrics show that the woman in the song is not pursuing anything sexual, but she is simply a fan of the music. Despite this, she is still labeled using the derogatory term 'groupie.'

Overall, the song's lyrics highlight that a person's love and devotion towards music should not be judged negatively. The song encourages appreciating music without attaching negative labels to those who love it.

Bobby Nunn deserves his own "Unsung" episode :-) I'm sure he's got some interesting "tea" about what it was like in the record biz, back then. He's had close ties to Philip Bailey from EWF, as well as Rick James. The horns are wicked. Rick James' input/influence is all over this...unmistakably. The bridge is very EWF-like. I can see why Philip Bailey and Maurice White would consider Bobby as an extension to the EWF family.

@bourgeoisbrats yep I agree

@Anthony Taylor We both know Bobby Nunn doesn't have enough "presence" in R&B to have his own episode of Unsung :-) The point I was trying to make was that he (and folks like Allen McGrier) have a lot of "behind the scenes tea", which could make Unsung interesting again. We basically live in a world that loves "getting the tea", hence the popularity of celebrities like Wendy Williams, etc. Allen McGrier provided a lot of very interesting insight on working with Rick James, Teena Marie, The Mary Jane Girls. Insight like who actually came up with the parts on Cold-blooded (arguably Rick's hippest song). I like Unsung and have learned a lot from it, but as you pointed out, they haven't been as good of late. The recent episode on The Jets, was good.

@bourgeoisbrats look with all due respect ive seen the majority of the unsung episodes especially the first four seasons when it was really good u and I both know they put artist on there that has a body of work like zapp ohio players dramatics I donny Hathaway ect c'mon man u know he doesn't have that kinda of body of work however now I think the show has been going downhill for the last few seasons they have artists on there that have a limited body of work plus a lot of folks wouldn't even recognize his name I just left Buffalo enroute home to Toledo Ohio. I attended a Stone city band concert last night with a home grown Buffalo resident that's really familiar with the Buffalo music scene I had to explain to her who Nunn was and how Rick james was instrumental in helping him get started so c'mon bro thanks for the response tho
