Wait for You
Bonham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come tomorrow, one day closer to your heart
Lost around me, is time in itself when you're near
Take the time, I'll show you the lover for you
You're too young, to know what it is that I feel

All that I can do is wait for you just wait for you
All that I can do is wait for you just wait for you
Full of sorrow, your eyes are too wide and too new
Though I know these feelings I get when you're near
Even I, I can't give you love without fear
You're too young, I don't know what's keeping me here

All that I can do is wait for you just wait for you
All that I can do is wait for you just wait for you

All that I can do is wait for you just wait for you

All that I can do is wait for you just wait for you
All that I can do, ohh, ohh

Overall Meaning

The song "Wait For You" by Bonham is a tender and emotional tribute to a person who the singer deeply cares for, but knows that it is not yet the right time to pursue any kind of romantic relationship. The lyrics hinge on the idea of waiting, both in the present and the future, for the moment when their love can finally be realized. The chorus repeats the phrase "All that I can do is wait for you" as a refrain, emphasizing the feeling of being powerless to change their circumstances.

The first verse sets the scene for the song, describing how each passing day brings the singer closer to the person they care for. When they are together, time seems to lose all meaning and they are lost in each other's presence. The singer offers to show the other person their love, but acknowledges that they might not yet fully understand what it means to feel that way. The second verse is more introspective, as the singer reflects on the age difference between themselves and the other person, and the fear that comes with trying to love someone younger and less experienced. Despite this, they cannot resist the pull of their emotions, even if they don't know what it means for their future.

Overall, "Wait For You" is a bittersweet ballad that traces the complicated emotions of unrequited or forbidden love. The singer yearns for a connection that they know they cannot have right now, and can only find solace in the fact that they are willing to wait for the other person, no matter how long it takes.

My daughter asked me about the music I listened to when I was a teen back in the 80’s. I made her a playlist and shared it with her. About a week or so later she told me that she was envious of the music quality and talent I grew up with. She’s also a fan of the videos from then and the live stuff out there. Proud dad
